Our hotel manager recommended this restaurant, his second choice as the first was already booked out. We had a glass of really decent house red wine and then two meat dishes, a steak with bearnaise sauce and veal with Parmesan risotto and mushroom sauce. I wouldn't describe this as fine dining; the meals were large and very rich but we thought they were delicious. The sauces were particularly good and the meat very tender and cooked still pink. We saw people eating huge bowls of dessert. The place was packed out on a Thursday night so booking is probably important. It's the sort of place you go to when you haven't had a square meal for a while and you're really hungry!

It's hard for me to review this restaurant. My ham was excellent but the risotto that came with the scallops was inedible : a mushy paste that had very little resemblance with a real risotto. I called the waiter and he suggested another accompaniment. I was very surprised to see that I was charged for this. The lady that dealt with it (manager?) was really not very nice about the whole affair. And be careful some dishes come as mains, some as pintos, which are small plates and make sure your waiter understand which size you mean.

not cheap, but no good food in St Jean de Luz is. We were taken out to lunch here. Food was excellent (seafood and plat du jour...a chicken pasta dish), fish dishes can be made gluten free and staff are aware of the issue for the most part. Our waitress wasn't sure so we double checked with someone more senior. Good wine list. We had a nice txakoli (local white wine).

The place is very spacious inside compared to other ones in the same area. Prices are OK and food is nice. The only problem is that if you are looking for a healthy option this is not the place. Fried, butter and very heavy on the fat, although really tasty.
