I'm a sushi lover. I've been to all of the Kelowna Japanese restaurants multiple times, and Yama is my favourite food. The special rolls are a meal in themselves, and the sushi and nigiri portions are twice the size of the slivers that Ozeki serves. Try the 911, Dragon or Mountain rolls. Awesome. They have great lunch specials. We love the udon and the ramen as well. It's a family run business, and they're very polite and attentive. The chef will come out and check on you to make sure you're happy with your meal when it's not too busy. The prices are very reasonable for the portions. I think that if it was located in a newer building in a less industrial part of Kelowna that this place would be so busy that it would be impossible to get a table. We've eaten at many of the Japanese restaurants closer to downtown and the highway and Yama Kitchen outdoes them all with better food and service. The service was perfect. The food was perfect. We both had Yama Box's which I guess is their version of a Bento Box but you get to choose the roll, salad, tempura or teriyaki, gyoza or spring roll or korroke, etc. Portions are large, well-presented, well-prepared. I am so happy that we happened upon this gem of a restaurant. It has been my favorite sushi spot in Kelowna now for about 3 years. Not only is the food amazing the restaurant (although small) is spotless and I can not say enough about the owners Mia and John. They make every visit enjoyable and we never hesitate to bring friends there or to recommend everyone try it. Let's face it; the outside appearance won't make you crank on the steering wheel to pull into a parking spot. But if you like no-nonsense, hole-in-the-wall pleasant surprises, stop in. You won't find a more welcoming, friendly, family owned restaurant. It is located in an unexpected location. Very few tables, squeaky clean. I don't even like seafood but love their tempura. Stopped in for a quick lunch again. Tried a couple of the new items on the updated menu. Never a complaint at Yama. I always leave full, and with money in my pocket. Very creative dishes. Great presentation, large portions. They're definitely making up for the poor location with the great food. Small and cheaply decorated, but always clean. Super friendly

As always great food and service. Sushi is not the most traditional but there is a choice for purist and for someone who likes wacky rolls. Tempura is very good. Veggies and noodles are on the menu as well but we mainly go for sushi and sashimi.Nice simple place. Lots of parking. Walking distance of downtown.

Find ourselves back at this hidden gem again. Fast and friendly as ever. Fresh, and the largest nigiri and sashimi pieces for less $ than the more popular sushi restaurants in town. My wife loves the copper pot ramen special. Can't go wrong here. Small, clean, quaint.

The place is decent, nice owners, and the food is consistently good. I like everything they make, but in particular the chicken udon soup!

By far the best sushi I have had. Loved the Crunchy Roll, Volcanoe Roll and the Tempura! All the rolls we tried were great!
