This is my local, I drink in here everyday. On St. Patrick’s day we arrived and got served, no problems. I love coming to this pub, all staff are pleasant and jolly. I have never had an issue except on St Patrick’s Day when Veronica the landlady refused to serve my friend. My friend had a thick Dublin accent, assuming he was a traveller she declined to serve him. I have been in the pub before when she has locked the door to ‘keep the travellers out’. My friend from Dublin was targeted my RACISM of all days to refuse an Irish man of a drink. I was with family and was told to ‘f**k off’ by Veronica and she ‘was too busy to give a reason as to why she wouldn’t serve my friend’. I have never fel...
This is typically my go-to spot, where I visit about 4 to 5 times a week. I usually don't have any issues, and Gerry is always very welcoming. However, when I went there on St. Patrick's Day with my family, we were told that our friend, who had traveled almost an hour to celebrate with us, would not be served drinks (even though he was not drunk or causing any trouble). When we politely asked Veronica for a reason, she rudely replied that there was no reason and told us to "f**k off" to another bar if we wanted to get served. This kind of disrespectful language towards a customer, especially one who frequents the pub regularly, is absolutely unacceptable.
I recently visited The Monk to enjoy some music and drinks with my partner, only to be shocked by the treatment I received. The landlady instructed her bartender not to serve me without giving any explanation when questioned. Despite being a long-time customer, I was left feeling unwelcome and confused by the lack of explanation. It seems that I am not the only one to have experienced this treatment based on social media reviews. I am still trying to comprehend why I am suddenly persona non grata at a place I have frequented for years.
Was recommended to come here, wasn't disappointed! Fantastic old fashioned pub, we were greeted by friendly staff and lovely cosy surroundings. Great beer too! Really enjoyable place to sit and have a couple of drinks. Fantastic friendly atmosphere, loved it. This is exactly what I have been looking for in a pub. Thank you Monken Holt !!!

I have to pass half a dozen pubs, two of which are very good, to get to my local pub. There 's a good mix of people, entertainment along with high quality staff and they look after their beer. It 's a pub, not a restaurant, doing what pubs do best. The place is run by very professional landlady who has brought the pub back to life.
We adore our visits to the Monk with our two Cocker Spaniels. The landlady Veronica, Manager Gerry, bar angels Katie, Debbie, Sharon, Bree, and all the other brilliant people make us so welcome. The dogs can't wait to visit and literally drag us in after our walks. I can't recommend the pub highly enough.
Me and my wife popped in here for a couple of pints as we were staying in a hotel across the road. It's a great little pub. A good range of ales and beers, TV screens for the sports, a decent sized seating area at the front and a partially covered one at the back
A cornerstone of the local community! We regularly go for a Friday evening beer at the Monk and adore the owners love of community and the atmosphere the pub boasts (on an almost daily basis)
