"Excellent old pub. Unchanged for 100 years. Decent beer, full of locals. Good food. A bit off the beaten track, but well worth the walk. Not to be missed !"

Wow! Visited here today 06.05.23 with family. I have to eat gluten free and couldn’t believe the options available I wish I had taken pictures, but the food was that good that I didn’t stop to take. We were a party of 6 and sat comfortably in the bar area. We were served by Maureen who was very welcoming and friendly. The food was so fresh, plentiful and a great price. Mark the chef certainly knows his stuff and it was a pleasure meeting him. I have to say it’s the first food establishment that I have visited where the pasta and batter is gluten free as standard. fish, onion rings etc) I was even able to eat the garlic bread. The biggest surprise was that my favourite dessert was also on the menu and that too was gluten free Rhubarb crumble and custard! Needless to say I had a three course meal and I’m writing this review after needing a nap I’m not local to the area unfortunately and wish I could have returned to sample the Sunday lunch. Once again, gluten free Yorkshire puddings are available as is gluten free gravy, along with a choice of three different meats and a good selection of vegetables. Well done Maureen and Mark. I will definitely be back to sample your Sunday lunch next time I am in the area. If you could stock a selection of gluten free beers that would be fantastic but the wine did not disappoint. Thank you and hope to see you again soon Angie

The Tavern is a tiny untouched gem of a pub with a friendly welcome and a bar full of locals. We go regularly, but last night we tried the food for the first time. It was delicious ! It was extremely good value but didn't lack ambition for all of that. My husband had chicken with port and stilton and I had pork steak with stilton and apple. All served with mustard mash and a selection of vegetables. Simply cooked but great flavours.

Had a lovely evening drinking great real ale by the fire in this untouched gem. Really friendly bar staff, chef and drinkers (and their dogs). We did succumb to some food, the garlic bread was very good and the bread butter pudding was delicious.

We visited the tavern after reading the reviews on trip advisor unfortunately for us they were not serving food this particular night but the ale was very good and the barmaid and locals very friendly
