My wife, niece and I had hiked from Donostia for nearly six miles along the scenic Mt. Ulia trailhead on a warm August day and were in desperate need of a good reward meal as we strolled the waterfront plaza in Pasai Donibane. We came across Yola Berri and grabbed an outdoor table with a stunning view of the water. The food was excellent! We started with a plate of fried calamari. The calamari rings were tender with a crispy crust. Just what we needed. Next up were the patatas bravas, or fried potatoes. They were the best we had during our monthlong stay in Donostia. The potatoes were sliced into small cubes and fried to a golden crisp perfection—warm and perfect for dipping into the hot sauce and aioli sauce that came with the order. In need of some fresh vegetables, we devoured two plates of sliced tomatoes and onions, smothered with extra virgin olive oil and seasoned with salt—a classic Basque dish. In between bites, I enjoyed a glass of cold 18/70 lager as I watched the boats glide along the inlet that abuts this historic port town. We left tired from the hike but satisfied by a great meal!

We looked on trip advisor and of course we’re startled with the reviews but I would like to silence the critics out there and really celebrate this restaurant I would actually rate it 4/5 but I have them 5/5 to make sure people give them a chance. What I really enjoyed fried Calamari was excellent potato brava was very good (mayo was not necessary so skip that) monk dish was very nice beer and wine was good value and tasty service was excellent Honestly nothing we did not like so don’t listen to the critics be kind and they will show you a great lunch!

On a bus trip out from San Sebastian just for a view of the area came to Pasaia and found that I could cross the harbour on a frequest ferry for 1.10 Euroes each way. Crossing to the village I found that my frst choice of restaurant was closed (MONDAY! but Yola Berri had a table on the square. Waiting a few minutes I noticed some guests drinking cider and asked about it. On their recommedation I tried Sopa Pescado with their Sidra Bereciartua perfect for al fresco lunch on a hot day! I'm now a cider convert.

Take a trip to this quayside authentic restaurant. It’s a few km from the city but so worthwhile. Best approach from the water ferry 2€. The set lunch is to die for . All inclusive 22.90€. We shared a whole no bones) hake in the warmth of an early October lunchtime. The starters of fresh salad and fish soup also worth a mention. Staff , super efficient and happy to take a photo too. Just go. And enjoy……
