Upon entering the unassuming storefront of Zen, located in a strip mall in Markham, it is difficult to imagine that there is anything beautiful within. Once you walk through the doors and you are greeted by the kind staff, you realize the restaurant is in fact quite nice in its own right. It feels extremely traditional in the sense that when you are there everything feels extremely methodical and manicured. When ordering I would suggest ordering the sushi or sashimi omakase ($80 and $85 respectively) then ordering a couple appetizers. May be more gear to frequent customers.It is a small restaurant, with around 10 seats at the sushi bar, 5 small 4 people tables, and 2 small party rooms. The decoration is simple with wood. The tables are small and separated by low partition, so privacy is low. I came here a few times and never left in disappointment.The food is so good that literally melts in your mouth.Definitely have to sit at the sushi bar and order with no price limit chief selection and eat until you are full. Beacuse it is a totally different experience than to order omasake menu.You get to eat a lot fresh and rare seafood hear that no other restaurant serves.The servers sometimes is a bit slow, but the sushi chief are friendly and professional
Went with friends for lunch. Staff and Chef very friendly. Odd that they were out of a number of menu items such as salmon for the sushi. Had to order alternatives for some of our choices.Food was good and enjoyable. Found it strange when looking up on their website that only 2 reservations were left yet when I got there, the restaurant only had other tables occupied. We got there at 12:30 and probably left at 1;15 so the website comment was wrong.

Zen has move a while ago and we decided to go and try their new location. The location itself is nothing special even if better than the previous one. However now they offer menus, and the food is very good and offer much more the the usual. They should offer a better service to go with this more ambitious set f dishes
I was treated to a night at the Chef's table - where the executive chef gives you what he thinks is best.It was absolutely the best sushi I have eaten in my life. The dishes are unique - with the highest quality sushi.We dined for a couple of hours - and were adventurous. It is definitely a foodies paradise.
Had lunch there a couple of weeks ago. Cosy restaurant and confident chef. Very good quality food and service but for me it wasn't outstanding enough to justify a $100 bill for a $50 lunch.A destination for high rolling executives with money to burn.
If you love sushi or omakase, this is a must try. Expect to pay ~$150 / person without alcohol as this is top quality. The service was top notch and the food was amazing. I went with a few family members and the experience was enjoyed by all.

Omakasae sushi course is our favourite. Try to get seating at the bar and the food is even better because Chef prepare your sushi one after one when you finish, with dressing as well, which makes the taste just right.
