I have never written a review before this one but I feel I have a duty to warn people about this place. We, my wife and I, were there last night with a Groupon which states one bottle of wine, two soups or salad, two entrees and one dessert. After asking us what kind of wine we prefer our waiter, who was very nice by the way, brings out a carafe of wine. I told him the groupon says a bottle and he lets me know that they have changed that but not upgraded the Groupon yet. And he says it 's better because you get more wine! Okay... Our soup was fine, not great but passable. After our soup bowls are taken away we start chatting with the two lovely ladies next to us for quite some time. They were finished and we had a very long conversation. Our waiter comes by to let us know the entrees should be out soon and the ladies said geez we thought you were just having soup , because it had been so long. There were maybe two other tables inside. Finally our entrees arrive. Wild Salmon over penne with pesto and Flat Iron Steak with a green peppercorn sauce. The salmon was dry and overcooked, the pesto was minimal and watery. My wife had to ask for more pesto and some parmesan just to give it some flavor. The steak had one end well done with the other part medium as opposed to the medium rare which I had ordered. It was pretty tasteless and tough. When the waiter came by again I asked him why there was no peppercorn sauce and he said they stopped doing the sauce. What?!!! He had recommended the dish! He then brings out a freshly made mushroom sauce , that looks like a very thin mushroom soup for the steak. As we are still eating our meal , he asks us if we would like him to bring out our dessert. My wife and I just looked at him before she finally said that we would like to finish our dinner first. The kicker is he informs us that they they are closing for awhile starting as of last night to do some renovations. Maybe they let the cook off early for vacation and they were just scrambling to get a few meals out last night. He did add ice cream to our flourless choc cake because he felt bad about recommending the steak. The cake was very much like a fudge not a flourless cake. Again, our waiter was extemely pleasant but our experience was just the opposite. Sometimes you hit with Groupon and then there are times like this!

Very nice food, open Monday, sidewalk eating available. Pleasant staff, good wine selection my Butternut Squash Ravioli was great. But! New chef and menu on the way! Quick chat with chef is very, very promising! N. French cuisine: yum! Look for changes by end of June, but quick definitely do take advantage of what's here, now, before it migrates away from Italianate.

Nice little place, calm, dogs okay outside, good and reasonably healthy happy hour fair, good selection of wines, I'd say they are learning and getting better and better. Update 6/02/2017 new partner and changed to French menu from Italian. Prices are fair, about right.

Delicious Bolognese, this is one of my favorite dishes in Sierra Madre. Entree's served with warm fresh bread and saucer of oil and vinegar for dipping:
