Zum Eichhof is a small Gasthaus a short stroll from the heart of the village that caters to a contented group of locals and travelers. We were the sole American diners the evening we visited, which is apparently typical. Dishes on offer are typical of the region, but the quality of the cooking is very high. Our food was fresh- tasting, well-seasoned, and served piping hot. Prices are more than reasonable. My filet of trout with almonds and browned butter was delicious; it was a copious portion, perfectly cooked, served with potatoes and a large leaf salad composed of multiple types of lettuce.The cost? About $13.00! [I requested fried potatoes rather than boiled, and they were excellent.] My husband's dinner, similarly priced, was grilled pork tenderloin served with a cream sauce and a hefty portion of Roesti as well as the same leaf salad. His half liter of HBTraunstein dark beer was just four Euros.We ate on the rear patio, from which we could enjoy a lovely, rural mountain view. The evening was great. Reservations advised. Highly recommended!
We were here late August 2016. Main reason for coming was the chance to dine outdoors. Food was at best average. My breast of turkey (Putenbrust) was ok but the sauce tasted as though it was ready-made and accordingly dull. The pommes frites were certainly out of the freezer and plenty of other restaurants can do a better job in this respect. Service was very slow, though not unfriendly. On a positive note: the local beer was good.
