Our first visit to this restaurant was excellent, so good that we immediately booked the night after. The second evening there was a different set of waiting staff, who were all friendly and helpful, as per the first evening. The food was also excellent, as per the first evening, and value for money. The reason I won't give the review 5 stars (which is a shame) is down to the variance in charges over the drinks on the second evening from the first evening. I ordered a white glass of wine (1/8) from the menu (and I showed the item to the waitress on the menu) which was a Riesling at 2,80 euros. The charge on the bill was 4,80 euros? Even though a bit out of the centre of the town this place is worth walking or driving. The food was delicious with a home-like touch. The only small thing was that the ribs we had during our 2nd visit had quite a narrow cut so not much meat on. The fish (zander fillet) was superb. Wide selection of house wine with average quality. The service was prompt and excellent. The place itself is quite small so reserve a table to be on the safe side especially for the weekends. No English menu but the waiter explains everything. The toilets need a bit more frequent cleaning as it was quite smelly.
we were in the steirerwirt tonight. that found out to be a bit difficult, as the signs were partly snowed in. but the search was worth it. the leberknödelsuppe was very tasty. the swirl roast is different than expected, but tasted good and was super delicate. the backhendl is highly recommended. the leaflet salad consists of fresh salate and vegetables and is refined with pumpkin seed oil. still we sat in a small next room, the service was very attentive. the price-performance ratio we felt good. we'll be back.
The proposal for people who want to ski resorts to feel a little quiet, local climate with permanent tiles. It is like the Austria-legal. location of the local is quite hidden, at the end of old market on a camping site. we have eaten Styrian antipasti as an appetizer (various sausage and cheese varieties) and as a main course youngschweinbratl and ripperl. size rather for men;-) and all in all very good, but now also no highlight. who likes to have a hearty kitchen in a rustic ambiente should look in. staff very friendly and attentive.
When we were searching for a restaurant in Altmarkt, Zum Steirerwirt was rankend second on TripAdvisor however after having tried both the first ranked and Zum Steirerwirt, Zum steirerwirt is definately the best choice! Dinner was just great and also the wine was better then what we got elsewhere. Perhaps not the best place for dinner with kids despite the fact that there is a camping right next door.
