I was in Essen for a few days on business but I had a few personal days. In the area that is mostly closed on Sunday this place was open and the sign of seeing the chickens roasting in the window outside let me go...in. I ended up getting some bratwurst, pommel frites with mayo (I loved) and schnitzel. A lot of food way too much to eat but very good. I wanted to try a bit of this and that. Pricing was affordable also. On Sundays go to this place as it's one of the only ones open on this street !!

chickens are super crispy. currywurst extra sharp rocks enormously. pommes nice crispy. schaschlik, I find myself really good. jägerschnitzel are super! self-made salads also exist, but I never eat.

zum xaver is regularly printed in local newspapers and other city leaves and is advertised there diligently. not too wrong!The pommes currywurst were very good and did not cost much at €4.10.
