I was living nearby to Fresno with colleagues while teaching in Madrid back in June and our landlady suggested that if we stopped into Fresno Restaurant to let them know we were staying at her place. We didn't go in at first and spent time running all around Madrid and later realized that one of the best and friendliest restaurants for us was right in our neighborhood all the time! Fresno! When we entered we heard music in a back room and were invited in to discover a neighborhood senior citizen dance class in progress! There must have been a hundred people tearing up the dance floor! Others were playing an unusual game of cards with pictures on them and tried to teach us. We told them where we were living and they already knew and wondered what we had not stopped in before! We met the owners, their friends and locals who came in to watch the TV. Many of the waiters were from South American and very friendly. I could not walk by the place later without someone waving to me! My food experience there was mostly of the tapas that came along with beer and wine or great coffee and sweets. All typical of Madrid and delicious. But I saw a lot of hearty plates being served to diners that looked and smelled great! The sidewalk area was also a real meeting place for locals day and night and on weekends. One of my big regrets about the stay in Madrid was that I did not spend enough time at Fresno and plan to go straight there when I return sometime. A lesson learned was that when your landlady, Palmyra was mine, tells you to go to the local restaurant you had better do it!

In the Diego de Leon neighborhood of Madrid a busy local place taking care residents and visitors. Senior citizen dance classes and table games in the function rooms. A nice coffee-breakfast-tapas bar with Peruvian waiters, regular dining room with home style meals and side walk tables and chairs for evening drinking and dining with friends. This place is open early morning to late night and is always humming with activity. The owners are friendly, so it the staff and the customers! I hope to go back there! 6/2015

Hadn't been here for over a decade. It hasn't changed. Still vfm We ordered from the menu of the day. I chose cocido soup and the Madrid stew. My wife had the so called stuffed aubergines with beef followed by the Madrid stew. We were more than content with what we are. Desert was a yummy light choc mousse. Washed down with red wine and casero. We left the restaurant more than happy especially with the bill. €20 for the 2 of us.

Always busy, frequented by locals that have a good selection of restaurabnts in the area.Home cooking, the owner always around checking things are OK. Nothing fancy but everything fresh. A short cab ride from the centre but you will more than save the fare with a 3 course menu with a good selection of food, wine and all for 15 euros
