A very popular restaurant at the Port that usually requires booking ahead a few days in high season. The restaurant itself is very classy and set over three floors with the top floor terrace the best one. I picked the restaurant particularly as I wanted to try their lobster. Unfortunately the waiter only informed us there was no lobster after we had spent 10 minutes viewing the menu. This also seemed odd as there were at least two tanks full of live lobsters. Either way the waiter could have informed us as we were seated and handed the menu. This summed up the service for me. Impersonal, minimal and borderline unfriendly. As we arrived at the restaurant and they had confirmed our booking the waiter marched off without asking us to follow only to turn around and irritably beckon us over. The waiter who served us was polite enough but made no attempt to engage with us or showcase the food. The food itself was reasonably good. I had steak after the lobster was unavailable and found it to be very good. What let the plate down were the fried potatoes which were poor by any standard. My partner had Calamar a la plan ha and was very complimentary about it. Other dishes we saw served looked fantastic too. So overall I would say it is worth a visit, it’s a beautiful venue and the food is decent but it is lacking in friendly, informative service that we found in abundance in many other restaurants in San José. This summed up our experience at 4 Nudos.
We were expecting something special and were really disappointed. No real welcome so we didn’t feel like valued guests, a simple greeting was all that was needed. It was not explained to us that the starters were for sharing so we ordered too much. The tomatoes and french fries were good. The eggs and potatoes swimming in oil! One of our party is vegetarian and he was made to feel ‘different’ With little attempt to make him feel anything other, little on offer as a main course. I had lobster which was ok but oily. My friend had turbot which was poorly presented and again very oily. No one noticed us leave or even ask if we enjoyed our evening, which we didn’t.
Went there to a family wedding just before lockdown. The food and drinks are really high class, Rosa the manager is very friendly and really nice, the view is picturesque and in general the place is full of character! Greatly-positioned at end of the harbour, this restaurant is an ideal stop for a stroll through the village. Superb seafood, superb local wines, superbly-prepared rum&coke! I can’t wait to visit again next time I’m in San Jose!
