Accanto Semplicissimo

We went to Accanto on Saturday night. We were kindly shown a nice table and were looking forward to our dinner. Then our waiter came and asked us if we had been there before. We hadn't said to the water and politely that he must be mistaken. After that he started acting weird. Without going into any details, just like an example: I said I want some wine to eat. At this point he said OK, but first I should finish my beer that I had ordered on arrival. I would have enjoyed the wine during the antipasto, but the waiter went into a lot of trouble, us throughout the time we enjoy the antipasto. We had reservations with Cosmpolita that they were cancelled due to a group event, so they sent us to Accanto Semplicissimo, with whom they share a kitchen and a chef. They sat on a staircase that was unhappyly warm, on a small table for 2. Very cozy. We had the antipasta platter and lasagna and the portions were generous. The plate and bread ran great with the wine, but the lasagna was not very exciting or warm. The menu was interesting, but a little complicated and there was no English version. The service was good, but I didn't want to ask her to translate the whole menu.

Accanto is by far the best Italian you get in Esslingen. Having lived in Naples IT for 3 years, I can confirm that they meet the typical Neapolitan in an excellent way. Unfortunately, such delicious dishes do not come with the Neapolitan price tag, so your bill will run slightly up. However, I find the service, food and location more than enough to pay a bit extra. You also have a large selection of wines always nice to find good Italian wines in Germany!

We had a wonderful dinner in the lovely old town of Esslingen. The food was great, the staff not too attentive though. We recommend both the risotto and the carpaccio.
