I worked here for a summer, and it was a poorly managed establishment. I recommend going to San Clemente for a better experience! The owner seems to lack a basic understanding of things like workers' compensation. They illegally tried to make me pay for medical bills after I was injured on the job, which almost went to collections because they never informed me. Additionally, the workspace behind the counter was not sanitary at all. While their food and drinks are enjoyable, the prices for soft serve are ridiculously high. I hope they have made improvements since then.
My favorite items were the salsa and the açaí bowl, and the smoothies were tasty despite the order mix-ups. We also returned later for frozen yogurt, which was just okay. Just a heads-up about the hummus wrap—be cautious if you don't enjoy lots of salt! Despite the issues, the staff was incredibly kind and understanding. I’m sure if I had mentioned the hummus wrap, they would have happily replaced it, but I was too hungry to wait. While I probably wouldn’t return, I believe the staff deserves recognition for their hard work and kindness.
I love this place! I usually only come for fro-yo, but I know they have other options. However, the fro-yo is bomb and I love the toppings! They have healthy options as well. Service is always great and the staff personifies the active culture lifestyle. It's great to sit on the patio and stare at the beach while chilling. After, it's just a short walk across the street to Anita Beach. Parking: Parking is available right behind the building.
My wife discovered glass in her smoothie. She nearly served some to our two-year-old daughter, but thankfully, she took the first sip herself. When she went inside to inform the staff, there was a complete lack of empathy and concern. Nobody took the time to listen or accept responsibility; instead, we were simply offered a refund for the smoothie and told to email the owner with our concerns. We will certainly not be returning!

I love to go to Active Culture every time I’m in the Newport area. They have very original healthy options like the LB bowl and the Chocolate Bliss shake. The yogurt and açaí bowls are so good too. I like to get an LB bowl to go because the brown rice, apples, dates, prosciutto and cheese hold up well while traveling and I can eat it anytime I get hungry. Close to the ocean and sitting outside on a nice day is heavenly.
I appreciated vegan options and kombucha on tap, but found the food to be pretty medicore, and the kombucha was flat and very sweet! The space is cute. I wouldn't necessarily seek this palce out but it isn't bad.
The food and shakes are just a gimmick and overpriced. Don't waste your time or money unless you want to waste your time and money.
