My sister and BIL offered to take me out for dinner as I was visiting from out of town (having moved from Central Ohio many years ago). I replied "something Japanese) when asked what I would like. They made a reservation at Akai Hana being familiar with this restaurant. I rarely give anything five stars, so consider 4 stars a compliment please. The food, an Udon bowl, was outstanding. Service was just a bit rushed, although admittedly I am a slow eater. Restaurant is located in what I would consider the rear of the venerable Kenny Center, in an area with several other Japanese businesses (bakery, grocer, and gift shop) a very nice collection of shops. The sushi is delicious, but it's quite pricey. I tried the Akai Hana roll, which costs $30 for just 5 pieces. It uses radish as the wrapper, which is a bit unusual, but the presentation is lovely. The air conditioning was set very low, making the restaurant a bit chilly. Overall, I'd rate the food a 4 out of 5.

Used to live around the corner and come to this place all the time. I literally drive from jacksonville florida to eat here it is that excellent. Great service and award worthy food. The overall atmosphere is inviting, with spacious seating that makes it a wonderful place to sit, chat, and enjoy a warm meal with family and friends.
