Amara serves Venezuelan inspired cuisine. It is a lovely small cafe in the heart of old town Pasadena and has exactly the kind of vibe you might expect from such a place. They have a wide variety of drinks and food available, and all of it I've tried is tasty. It's an easy recommendation. I wanted to note a couple things that would have improved my expectations. It gets very busy, and correspondingly can feel a bit crowded and hectic. No more so than other popular brunch type spots in Pasadena, but something to be aware of. Venezuela/Spanish cafe with arepas, coffees, and churros con chocolate. Came here with a group of five after hiking at Eaton Canyon on a Sunday around 11:30am. Parked at the schoolhouse garage as it was right next to the cafe and is $1 for the first 2 hours. Credit cards accepted. You order/pay at the counter first then pick a table to sit at. Indoor and outdoor dining available. A restroom is available inside. There’s a water dispenser by the side of the restroom too. When my food arrived, I was immediately impressed by the delightful combination of Venezuelan cheese and the savory meat; each bite was a burst of flavor. I could truly appreciate the corn in the arepa, and I finished the whole thing without hesitation. The passion fruit juice was exceptionally refreshing and delicious! I found myself wishing I had ordered two, especially since my husband wasn't the best at sharing, and we ended up playfully arguing over it.
Overall, Amara is a fantastic spot for lunch or a special treat! Their Venezuelan dishes are outstanding, and everything I tasted was incredible. I will definitely be returning!
Best quality drinking chocolate in my lifetime. Rich, not overly sweet or heavy. No food come after. Amara and her husband are gems and often working hard there themselves. Staff is thoughtful and remembers you. More seating outside now, this place is always busy, but fast. Try the slightly spicy mocha drinks hot or cold and you'll be hooked. Don't get me started on the Venezuelan food, simple and highest quality ingredients, just order a plate at a time with a friend from the top of the menu down (huge portions! and try it all.

We tried both the Cuban sandwich and the steak sandwich, and they were fantastic—so flavorful and well-crafted! We were too full to try the churros with chocolate this time, but we definitely plan to come back for that. I’m also eager to try the empanadas on our next visit. I highly recommend this spot for a nice lunch paired with excellent coffee. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. As someone with South American roots and a family of talented chefs, I truly value finding a place that serves authentic Latin cuisine.
Jumped in Omar Apollo in the Amara Cafe make it a 10/10 experience already. Amara Cafe is the perfect place to go to breakfast / brunch. We ordered the Orinoco and Signature Asado arepas and they were both delicious. They were filled with so much meat and cheese. I've never had Arepas, but Amara has set the bar incredibly high. We also have their signature Venezuelan hot chocolate and it was so thick and rich. Definitely plan to go back here to try the other elements on their menu.
Nice little place to get some Venezuelan food. The portions aren't huge but it was all tasty. We will definitely be going back to try the other food. They lady at the register was nice and gave us good recommendations. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked good. They have indoor dining and a couple of table outside. There is a parking structure right next door to them and if I remember correctly it's $1 for first two hours and $2 each additional hour.
This restaurant is truly incredible! The staff is wonderful, the food is delicious and authentic, and you can tell it's made with care! They offer a wide variety of gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. The chocolate drinks and coffee are out of this world! My family and I can't wait to return and sample almost everything on the menu. Highly recommended!

I’ve been going to this place for many years and Amara continues to serve delicious crispy churros, savory empanadas and addictive hot drinks. Their menu has expanded and their hours extended to feed the locals and their neighbors. Kudos to the restaurant’s namesake owner!
Sevice is always amazing and the food comes out excellent and timely. The restaurant is very peaceful and makes people feel right at home.
