Was excited to visit for the first time after seeing the award wins for best Mexican in the local news. Looking online the menu looked good so made a booking for 17:30 on a Thursday. On arrival we were seated quickly. The ambiance in the venue is very nice, with real lit candles on each table and twinkly lights up in the beams of the ceiling. I did need to move the candle to the side however as I couldn’t see my partner past it as it was in our eye line. We went to Amigos without a great deal of expectation. My partner stated that she doesn't like Mexican. However within one lovely meal we are both now fully converted. We'll start with the reception, we were welcomed by an extremely friendly man who found us a great table. Then our waitress was cheerful and attentive and took our order. Our starter was the nachos. At other places I've had small plates of not very tasty chips. I was flabbergasted when a huge plate of fully loaded chips, loads of cheese, loads of sauce and loads of guacamole. This was our first visit to this restaurant and we were not impressed. The cocktail was disappointing, as we noticed they used a pre-made mixer. My pina colada was mostly ice with a very artificial taste. The calamari starter was bland and greasy, with very little actual calamari to eat. My main dish was supposed to be a burrito but looked more like an enchilada, topped with melted cheese and red sauce. The service was also concerning. We overheard the waitress offering free tequila shots to other tables, in exchange for a tip. When she did the same for us, removing the cost of the cocktail from our bill, we felt pressured to leave a tip. This kind of behavior is unacceptable in the hospital...
What a brilliant place! Thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Amigos (my birthday meal kept secret from the restaurant). Didn't start well with our journey from down the A12 delayed by an issue on the A14 at Ipswich, however I rang Amigos and they were superb, saying they would hold our table for u, no problem. This they did three of the four of us arrived 15 mins late and the fourth member of our group almost an hour. However, throughout there was no pressure on us to order food and that was really appreciated. It doesn't look very inviting from the outside, but the welcome is warm and friendly inside, as is the ambience. Sam was very accommodating and made us feel right-at-home, while looking after us well through-out our visit. The menu is huge with loads of great sounding food and there's a big vegetarian section too. Our food was freshly cooked, arrived fairly quickly and everybody on the table reported it was tasty ... clean plates all round! Prices are very reasonable for the quality of food and service provided. This is a super little independent restaurant, go support it and you'll have a great time there ...
This restaurant is truly incredible. The service was outstanding and the food was fantastic. The atmosphere was the best I have ever encountered in this town. I can't believe it was my first time visiting, but it definitely won't be my last. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
I'd been recommended by a family member to sample Amigos menu despite being a non chilli lover wow they do not disappoint! I can see why there award winning! Tasted immense, superb service an ambient setting, Perfect end to turning 58! Will definitely return!
Birthday meal here tonight was so good. We couldn't finish our meals but that just means you get so much for your money! The food was delicious and the waitors were so friendly and had great customer service. We will be coming back! Thank you!
