Another restaurant suggested by a friend as I had never been before. When we (3) arrived we were seated straight away but that's because there was no one else in the cafe. We ordered some champers which arrived quickly and then looked at the menu. A large variety to chose from. We ordered the following oysters Kilpatrick - garlic bread - garlic prawns - salmon - (me) 3 combination yiros (lamb chicken pork) I also asked for tatziki sauce and yiros bread which didn't come with the dish but was not a problem. I took my family to Argo's for dinner on Saturday night, and the meat for the lamb souvlaki was very undercooked and there was a hair in the Hellenic meze. When I politely asked the staff to resolve the issue, I was given a napkin to sort out the hair myself from the indian waitress, whilst the owner ignored everything I said even when I translated it to Greek. This service came at great shock as I have dined at Argo's before and received excellent service for Father's day dinner, though service seems to have downgraded since then. Will not be dining there again.
What an interesting night of dining. We arrived early and the place was vacant, within the hour it was pumping!! We all ordered Entrees, that was a huge mistake because we ate too much... the mains were very very generous! The meat was amazing! Didn't finish our mains and had to get take away containers. The waiting staff seemed a little unprofessional and clumsy, one plate collision near our table and then a guest at another table had a full glass of wine spilt all over his clothes!! Well priced old school Greek restaurant, we will be going back! ????
Argo is named for the Ship that sailed the seas in search of the Golden Fleece and the decor is a reflection of that. On this Wednesday night we decided on oysters and grilled haloumi for entree and for mains we selected from the seafood. Whiting and Snapper.A lovely bottle of Mount Horrocks Riesling to compliment our choice. Theo looked after us very well and other diners were regulars. People think that Port Adelaide is dead at night, well how wrong they are. This restaurant was humming along on a Sunday night. Despite the restaurant being full the noise level was quite acceptable even though it was full. The service was good and friendly. With a vast selection my partner and I tried the seafood platter, the taste was exceptional and it was not overloaded with chips and salad. Due to the generous size we had to decline the desserts.
We went to argos for breakfast and to be honest, i wouldnt bother wasting your time if your thinking of going. First of all the service was ****, absolutly no customer service skills at all. The place itself needs an upgrade and thorough clean. The food was ok, but could do better at home in my own kitchen. The coffee also tasted like instant coffee. Price wise it wasnt too bad, so i guess you get what you pay for.
We have been coming to this wonderful little place for years and it never disappoints. The food is akin to the best home cooking. The goat dish, in particular, is out of this world! The quaint decor, friendly service and great little Greek band, all add to the warm and unpretentious atmosphere.
