First, we were unable to eat at this restaurant, so this is not a review on the food. I'm sure it is wonderful based on what locals and tourists all say AND the fact that you have to prebook months in advance in order to eat here. We pre booked our reservation several months in advance with the owner via email. He responded promptly to my request and after back and forth emails, we figured out a date and time that worked for us and his restaurant. I then emailed the owner a week or two before our arrival to confirm the reservation. This time, I did not receive a reply. I assumed maybe he was just too busy and forgot to reply to confirm my reservation. On the evening we were supposed to eat h...

Camping nearby we read the trip adviser reviews for this Auberge and booked well in advance. It didn't disappoint. The menu is seasonal and based on the home grown and killed produce of the area. The meal began with a large jug of home made dandelion wine which our party of six enjoyed. Soup was next made with nettles and a range of veg, delicate and tasty. Then cured ham and boar pate with melon and cornichon, large portion, yum. The main course of duck and pigs cheeks served with bamboo and roast potatoes was delicious. An excellent cheese course, walnut cake served with 5 different syrups flavoured with dandelion, pine needles, berries, etc to finish coffee. Well worth the visit. Finally...

We managed to get a lunch reservation (all foreseeable evenings were fully booked). It's an adventure to actually get there via the signposts (mainly ignoring the satnav) and the bumpy track before walking down to an old style inn. The outside and inside already tickled my visual senses and the other senses were served during the meal. What an experience it was! Everything is in abundance and I could just imagine people eating the same food several hundreds years ago when it was also a place to eat. Make sure you find out the story behind the inn and the menu - it's worth it and you'll appreciate your experience all the more. What a fabulous end to our stay in the Dordogne!

We visited this restaurant in a large group and whilst it did cater for our number (we took over the whole place), I wasn't that impressed with the food. I would describe it as peasants faire and whilst I like wholesome dishes I do like them to be flavoursome and interesting. The soup was a bit like dishwater, the beef stew tasted of aniseed which isn't a flavour I particularly like and the side dishes were odd and unappetising. The cheese board was fabulous but wasted after the relentless courses that came before. It was also impossible to find. A lot of our party enjoyed the experience but I was a less than impressed unfortunately. Reserva una mesa ahora

What a wonderful experience we had at this restaurant today. If you have a palate for amazing quality food cooked and presented by a wonderful chef and team, this is the place to go. Different but in a wonderful way. An experience all should enjoy and one never to forget. So good we have booked to re-visit twice in September with family. Don't worry about menu or what to choose - your chef will take care of all and will present great choice that will suit all. Great quality food at a very reasonable price - in fact Regis should increase the price it is worth so much more for the quality, ambience and customer service.

We have a house nearby and have been to Auberge de Layotte several times with friends and family. The menu hardly varies from year to year, and this is both the strength and the weakness of the restaurant. The chef makes everything from scratch, the food is basic traditional local fare, such as good house wives undoubtedly has preserved, pickled and cooked for centuries. Owner/chef is a great host and the al fresco dining in summer is very nice and often very entertaining.

6 of us went on a Saturday night, the food was excellent (and in vast quantities),from the pumpkin soup, salad, pate ham, confit, beef stew, cheese and the amazing walnut cake with a variety of different syrups, coffee and eau de vie, and all the wine you can drink- all for 32€ per head. The location is lovely (although the speed bumps play havoc a very full stomach), the car park is a bit of a walk from the resurant - best to wear sensible shoes !!

This is a must go to restaurant everything you eat and most of the drinks are grown or killed by the chef, who is a very pleasant host.Five courses or more I lost count but all the food was exceptional a delight to look at and many people photographed the plates of food as they came out.At 35€ I think this great value. Will visit again Reserva una mesa ahora

We had Sunday lunch at Auberge de Layotte and had a wonderful meal. It was a menu of traditional Périgueux offerings and everything was outstanding. We were very happy with the service as well as the food. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
