From the outside, this unassuming building doesn't seem like it is going to be a pleasant surprise. There are multiple restaurants in the Citadel of Blaye, some with wonderful views over the river but none can hold a candle to the food here! We were the first diners to arrive, but were promptly seated and brought the menu (both a set menu, and a la carte). There was not a huge choice, but this increased expectations a wider menu often compromises the quality of food. After 7 days in Italy and 7 days in and around Bordeaux this restaurant is the best meal we have had. My wife and I had the local beef, e35 for two and our friends had the local bird, e29.50. The beef was the best I have tried even at some great restaurants in Australia. We like it rare which is the way it came. The bird was marinated for days so the flavor was sublime. The desserts were very good and of course the wine, not over priced, make the lunch great. A young Matthieu Bost is the host and his wife is the impressive chef. We decided to have lunch here and are so glad we did. Lovely atmosphere, friendly professional service and delicious meals which have been added to a select number of fine dining experiences here in France. The Manager was very helpful and recommend an amazing local wine which we loved. Thank you for this lovely experience and we will certainly return next time we visit Blayne.
