Bethany Oyster House

I went to this restaurant for dinner with a group of friends while we were at the beach. The service was excellent, but the food was mediocre. We started with calamari and blackened gator bites, both of which were good, especially the gator. For my main meal, I ordered shrimp tacos, which took a long time to come out. Despite there being only a few other tables occupied, the wait didn't really make sense. They did provide a basket of chips while we waited, which was a nice touch. The shrimp tacos were mostly filler items, with only five very small shrimp. The taste was okay, but I felt like I was served the amount of shrimp that would fit on a mini taco in a large tortilla. I visited this restaurant because of their $1 oyster happy hour special from 2pm to 5pm. However, I was surprised to find out that only 3 of the oysters on the board were actually $1, while the rest were $4 each. The language barrier with the waitresses made it difficult to clarify this, and I ended up spending $24 on 12 oysters instead of the $12 I had anticipated. The local oysters were the ones priced at $1, while the imported ones were more expensive. Overall, the oysters were good but not necessarily worth the $4 price tag. Went in here while waiting for our table at Blue Crab next door, and went to one of the multiple empty seats around the oyster bar. When someone walked over I tried to order beers and oysters for my party, and he snapped and informed me that there was a wait (no one was sitting in the waiting area) and that the seats were only for those who had checked in. I said alright, and stepped back. Another person in my party went over to the other side of the same bar and the same guy immediately served him our oysters. Apparently if you want service from this place you have to order your oysters first, then maybe have a beverage later. Absolutely ridiculous. Oysters were good though.

Nice spot for a seafood dinner in a clean and spacious restaurant setting. The Oyster House shares the same building and choice of drinks as the Blue Crab. My wife, two sons (9 years, 7 years), and I accidentally sat here instead of the Blue Crab on a Thursday evening in August. My wife liked the oyster Po-boy sandwich, and I had the daily catch (snapper in cajun seasoning with a remoulade sauce). The grilled fish was nice, but the seasoning was a little too salty. Service was prompt and friendly. Restrooms were very clean. My sons liked being able to watch baseball games on the large television screens in the restaurant. My extended family and I ate and drank here twice the week of 7/23-7/30. The staff is young and somewhat inexperienced but they were happy and attentive. The decor is average. The happy hour oysters at $1 each are probably the best seafood bargain in Bethany. We know our shellfish and everyone of us was impressed with the variety, freshness and taste of the oysters. We were ordering them 50 at a time. The cream of crab soup was also very very good. Drinks and beer selection were great. Stop in there between 2 and 5 pm on a weekday, its worth your time.

Went to lunch on a summer mid-day on a Wednesday with a couple of families. We were the only three tables in the restaurant. Service was slow and their famous crab soup was barely even served warm. Waitresses were chatty with one another but never came to check on us. Never got refills and the food was wildly over priced based on the quality of the dishes. We spent over $250 on an incredibly slow afternoon for them and never once felt valued. Seared Tuna and Calamari apps were the only highlight. Truly disappointing.

Stayed at the Victoria Coast Marina hotel and enjoyed multiple mornings and evenings of breakfast/dinner at the Blue Crab. Despite limited hours, the staff ALWAYS make you feel at home... super friendly and professional. Food is always great, from standard breakfast fare to awesome seafood options for dinner. Everything was really timely as well despite bigger crowds during the dinner hours. Especially enjoyed the seafood chowder and fish 'n chips Highly recommend and looking forward to future trips to this location.

The food here is awful and the service was even worse. There was one young lady running around trying to make up for the lackluster work of another. Our food showed up cold and was poorly seasoned. Bob was our server and he was amazing. He was very attentive, checked in to make sure everything was good, and was very kind as well. Our entire table loved Bob. Bob for president. The food was great but Bob was even better. Bob is the greatest of all time.

Charbroiled Oyster Appetizer was delicious... followed by some very fresh mahi mahi fish tacos... amazing. Washed down with local Bethany IPA. Nice open floor plan, attentive waitress. All good things!!
