Dear Hubby and I have dined here a number of times since I posted my first review of them in 2016. We enjoy it, and it's a family friendly place, as well. Having the bakery onsite is a bonus. On a recent visit, the food quality wasn't quite as good as previous times. DH had the meatloaf, which was tasty, but on the dry side. Lots of gravy helped cover that over, but he didn't finish it, so I had it for lunch today and the texture was definitely not moist. Still had good flavor, though. I went for the fish tacos. Getting together with friends is always a delight and when it's impromptu it's even better. Opened in 1994 by a father his son, Black Cow Café is the quintessential neighborhood destination for a good comfort food. The first thing you notice is the décor, which is rustic and festive. The place has a warm, inviting vibe and it was packed during our visit. It's very popular with the locals. What a nice rainy day surprise. We were in the neighborhood and needed to get out of the rain. The Black Cow Cafe was the perfect refuge. Warm and inviting, with excellent food, drink and service. One of the best dishes we've had in recent memory was the Chile Stuffed Skillet Pasilla pepper stuffed with Bacon, cheddar cheese, and poached egg. Baked in an iron skillet over potatoes and topped with ranchera sauce and sour cream. It came with Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuits. This unique dish was amazing. This is a great casual, not hoity toity, dining spot. We went here for dinner after hiking and there were a ton of families with their kids. Very friendly staff that were super attentive and had wonderful food suggestions. I was impressed with the flavors of the blackened chicken on angel hair pasta on their specials menu. I love a pasta doused in sauce and it was delicious. My partner loved the almond crusted sanddab. It was very Thai-esque. It was light and not fishy at all.
I was drawn here from Glendale because I work in a Steely Dan Tribute Band and BLACK COW is one of our fan 's favorite songs. The menu is vast, I think anyone could find something they love. I settled in on THE DYNAMITE SHRIMP BOWL I was assured dynamite did not mean blazing death spicy heat so went in comfortably. The waiter was right, it was all flavor and just a touch of spice. Killer. The crispy veggies and jasmine rice were delicious. GREAT coffee ESPRESSO as well.

Cleanliness is just as important as taste and quality. It's like a ship. You have to control all aspects of your business or you will sink. This isn't appetizing by any means. The food tasted alright. Nothing special. With so many different options out there why risk eating somewhere that doesn't take pride in their establishment.
What a lovely spot. Easy to get a table. Very friendly staff. Fresh delicious food. Fast attentive service a lot of options to choose from. Wine. Good coffee. Shaded outdoor sitting area. Great for lunch.
