We used to live in Hobart & made a weekly visit to Blackmans Bay & have scallops, whiting & shoe string chips with chicken salt & a ginger beer at this establishment when friendly owners used to own it. We visited the Fish Bar today which is also an Indian Restaurant (mmm?). We ordered trevalla, chips & 6 scallops ($13.20) I confirmed that the scallops were small as I've noticed Hobart is lacking in small scallops & a ginger beer. $32.00 - for a takeaway. Okay just because we are only here once. When I went back in after 15 minutes to collect lunch, fish on top of chips (a bit dubious about type of fish I was given) 4 large scallops (ugh!) & standard size frozen budget chips with about 4 bit...
Ok...we're talking about a local Indian restaurant that tries to stay true to Indian cuisine and keep the price reasonable. Bottom line: my wife and I are locals who dine at this restaurant on a regular basis. With that said, its a great local restaurant with very authentic Indian meals. They don't advertise all that much and the staff are trying really hard....and that's what makes it so great. Over the past dozen or so dine-in meals, we always leave saying the food was great, out taste buds are going gang-busters, the service is genuinely sincere and its excellent value. We had two different meals from here. The first was Indian take away. We ordered Rogen josh and butter chicken and requested mild . After a long delay, we were handed the bag and brought it home only to find three meals, Rogen josh, Butter chicken and Chicken Tikka . Obviously someone else's meal and boy was it HOT! I think someone would have been disappointed to have received the wrong meal too. The second time we thought we'd try fish and chips. We got three tiny bits of flathead, each weighing in at 20g and enough chips to feed a family of 6 carb freaks! We'll skip the fish and chips, but on the premise that we will get what we order, will do Indian again because it was tasty, even though...
Yesteryear I had a business visit to Bombay, India and was taken to few local restaurant ( they call DHAVA) by my Indian host- food was memorable. Ever since I was kind of looking for a Indian restaurant to repeat my adventure- found it guys!! Restaurant's name truly reflects its origin- Bombay on the Beach. Their location is phenomenal-by the beautiful Blackmans Bay beach, nice open kitchen, ample dining room with street view or outside sitting and of course with bar facility. We've had takeaways from this establishment twice in the past few weeks. The first time we had curry which was good. We had chicken korma and chose the medium heat which was quite hot so if you don't like hot curries I would suggest you choose mild.Tonight we tried the scallops, flake and prawns. Unfortunately we were disappointed, it was the same as you expect to get from your local corner fish and chip shop but cost $60. We won't be buying seafood from here again but may get a curry again some time
