It has been some years since we ate at Bonterra and we returned there in early June, with our family. This is not the restaurant it was three or four years ago. The place remains popular, but other places in Calgary do Italian way better. The food is not bad, just average and definitely not worth the premium prices they charge. I had their halibut dish, and the portion was small and disappointing. Fleur de Sel nearby (French not Italian) offers a far superior halibut dish for less money. We arrived at the front of the restaurant, however, were led to the back so the waiter could check the bookings. Since it was windy we selected a table inside the restaurant rather than the patio. We immediately read the menu and noted that the selections were way overpriced! Since our son was treating us for a special occasion we decided not to make a fuss. My husband and I chose the pollo selection at 30$ each. There was no loaf of bread, only dry, long, cold breadsticks. Our pollo came with cold spaghetti and a very bitter salad. It has been several years since we considered Bonterra our "go to" for finer dining. We returned this week, hoping to enjoy their beautiful patio. The wait for a table on the patio was longer than we were prepared for, so we stayed inside. Bonterra is truly a beautiful dining environment and the service is professional & courteous. The reason we will not be returning anytime soon is their extremely limited menu. My husband ordered one of the two daily specials, which was disappointing. On a recent warm summer evening a friend and I had supper at this delightful restaurant.I always enjoy the ambience and never more so than when we can eat outside in this lovely walled garden in the heart of the city.We both enjoyed our starters. I had the prawns and she enjoyed a vegetarian offering. I then had the risotto with again prawns whilst she had another pasta vegetarian dish. We both had glasses of wine which were a reasonable price and then we had coffee. The service was good albeit a little slow, however neither of us was in a hurry and no one wanted to chivvy us out. We arrived 20 minutes early, but there was no fuss. We were seated at a great inside window table. We were added to a waiting list to move to the patio. The service was gracious and courteous. Just as we ordered our wine, we were offered a patio table. ALWAYS take the patio if you get the chance on a summer evening!The meal was spectacular as always! I had the Tonno (ahi tuna, cucumber, radish, chive, pine nut, green onion salsa verde) The tuna was prepared to perfection and the salad was fresh and crisp. My husband had the steak special for the evening.Bonterra is a hidden little gem that shouldn’t be missed!
BT does northern Italian very well, with a focused menu and a good wine list. I only wished that their portions were a bit larger, but this keep me wanting to come back for more. The atmosphere is great and the service attentive. Check it out.
Excellent Italian restaurant with outside and inside seating. Air conditioned. Nice menu and also offers a taster menu. Service was excellent and we were well looked after. Not cheap but quality food

On a 10 scale Sunset would be a 5.32 out of 10 The bar is basically a dive bar themed after a Jimmy Buffett song.
Best hot wings around. Cris and Kim will great you with a smile and you are sure to feel comfortable and relaxed.
