I spotted this outlet and thought I would visit just for a coffee. It turned out that the coffee was very good and thoroughly tasty. I also decided to try the garlic bagel and the pretzel on subsequent visits.
They were both fresh. The garlic bagel truly had a very powerful garlic flavour (it seemed to be loaded with garlic particles) and that may not be to the liking of everyone. The pretzel had a nice texture and taste, it was perhaps slightly on the salty side.
The interior has been set up with what looks like a retro-look and it may have been how stores in New York looked like in an earlier time.

Matraville is the sort of far flung place where I feel like I need a GPS, torch and emergency rations to visit (I've heard rumors of life beyond the inner west but really? seriously?) So it's a good thing the Brooklyn Boys are bringing their bagel goodness to us. I spotted their kiosk at Marrickville markets, and after having heard good things, was keen to try the bagels. I bought a couple of sesame bagels, which were generously proportioned and had lots of gorgeous bagel roundness going on. Toasted at home with haloumi, avocado and tomato, they were the bomb. Dense and a little bit chewy, with a freshly baked flavour, they definitely had the more-ish factor.
This is my second attempt to this store. First time I went in the bagels were attacked by flies so I got turned off leaving the store empty handed. I went in again today and it appears that situation is now under control; ordered cinnamon scroll bagels. It's a thick and doughy tasting sweet bagel but it’s not as soft or has a chewy texture - kind of bagel I was hoping for. To be honest it didn’t taste like it was baked today and I found it overly sweet however the custard icing on top of the bagel is a nice touch.

Love these American style bagels made locally. Sold at various markets & cafes, as well as David Jones Food hall, I can never go past their chewy, well salted pretzel. The bagels are delicious plain or filled with cream cheese or more. A favourite is the poppyseed & blueberry bagels. Bring on the carbs!

It's nice to have access to a nice American style bagel place with some variety and complete with schmear. I got the mixed seed, pumpkin and blueberry. Nice and soft on the inside with the perfect amount of chew and yield on the outside . Hits the spot.
