Castle Tavern - Edwardstown - South Australia.I want to be fair to this dining area (Bistro) because it was recommended to me by a family member. My visit was disappointing, maybe because I had expected more. That said. It is attached to a shopping centre and obviously is a lunch place for those shopping or those wishing to attend the gaming rooms next door. This is reflected in the menu which is largely ‘short order’ cooking. My partner ordered the fish and I ordered the hamburger. The hamburger was well presented and a fresh salad, tomatoes, onion, etc.,but the meat was a frozen pattie that one would buy from the freezer in a super market. Our local pub is nothing to look at very 80's interior but hey what's important the food and the price both very good.We had the in-laws with us and being country people they love pubs and especially ones with salad bars, here they have hot and cold salad bar.We all were very satisfied with our meals,I had baked chicken breast with ham and cheese with sweet potato wedges see not everything in pubs is deep fried!Mum in law and hubby loved their seafood baskets in truth they couldn't finish all the chips as we started off with the lovely ciabatta garlic bread,generous portion.Father in law very pleased with his mixed grill and daughter fish and chips very good $9.90 included her meal a soft dr...
We previously got takeaway from here each week. This week, part of our meal was missed so I called up. Staff member 's response 'ohh yeah that is sitting on the bench here, we must have forgot to give it to you '. Manager refused to offer a partial refund, or offer a discount the following week, and stated, 'you received most of your meal '. So in summary the manager if of the view it is acceptable to charge full price and only give you half your meal. No apology. Upon asking for his name he refused to give it to me and hung up. Extremely rude and dismissive management who are not accountable for their Staff 's actions. Very poor customer service Do not recommend.
Nothing wrong with the place at all. Took my 90 year old mum and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Basic surroundings, basic menu, you can serve yourself salad and veg, bread rolls with a smile, this may not be fine dining but it is a perfectly fine meal, served hot by friendly staff in pleasant surroundings. It caters for that clientele and it does it well. If you are nearby or in Castle Plaza give it a go, it sure runs rings around most of the cafe's in the plaza for value and variety. Actually, there are a couple of really cool pubs a little further up the road, so there is probably no excuse what so ever to grace the walls of this pub. I did, and a couple of times, but namely because I did some shifts at the local Coles, and that was quite a while ago as well. When I came back here to check it out more recently my friend literally screamed in horror, and I really don't blame him either. I personally wouldn't recommend this place.
