A family birthday celebration brought us to Caveau. We chose the Tasting Menu for the special occasion with two of us opting for the matched wines. It was a very quiet Thursday evening and their was no trouble with the service. The chef came to our table early in the evening and chatted with us, as well as at the end of the evening. The food was beautifully presented and included torched veal, guinea fowl, venison, yabby, nannygai, oysters and shared cheese platters. The desserts were nice but not quite as exciting as the rest. The wines were good and our waitress knowledgeable about both the dishes and the wines.A great night overall with the 9 courses. We finished at about 9:30pm.
We have eaten here previously and had the 7 course Vegan degustation and it was lovely. As there has been new owners since then we decided to have the 7 course Vegan desgustation again and couldn't believe how much it has improved! Good before but Brilliant now! Obviously a lot of time and effort went into creating the menu and it did not disappoint! Next time I will have to leave the car at home and have the matching wines! Couldn't reccomend more!
I have eaten at most of the nicer restaurants in Wollongong and this one is definitely a cut above the rest in terms of the attention to detail, quality and finesse. It is more like a Michelin star restaurant than your average fine dining restaurant with a menu that is innovative and surprising. I have been here three times and loved the food every time.
