FIX THE SALAD BAR For my girlfriend and I, Charlie Browns is a huge favorite of ours to the point we drive well over an hour to their Woodbury location just to enjoy their salad bar and prime rib. There are only two locations left in NJ and we happened to accidentally stumble on their second location in Scotch Plains this last week. We were so excited to find this place and knew we had to have lunch there. Food tastes like it came from a retirement home cafeteria. Not worth the price at all. Drinks were horrible. The bartender is not properly trained at all. Pouring the right ingredients but not the right measurements, which make for a terribly unbalanced cocktail (hint: adding more liquor does not make a drink taste better. Whoever told you that lied to you). If you’re considering getting anything other than a beer, DON’T. Manager and host were very kind. Server seemed less than enthused to be here. So this was a terrible experience from beginning to end, first of all the hostess was not very pleasant She had very long hair but I didn’t get her name)we had a very young waiter who took our order, when he brought out the drinks he had no idea who’s drink was who’s no big deal) but than he reached over the table to hand my wife a beer and spilled it all over my brother in-law and didn’t apologize or replace the beer. I had the short rib it was ok but the mashed potatoes were ice cold. My father in-law had the Ny strip steak and said it was very tough. Food mediocre at best. Manager (Muhammad) is rude and detached from his position evident by his poor choice of apparel as the manager, especially on a holiday. Recently had holiday dinner at Scotch Plains and though we were a party of 6, we were instructed to vacate our table in 15 minutes due to another party reservation. Why weren’t we apprised of this requirement before being seated? Due to this unreasonable “order” we never had the time to enjoy our dessert or sip coffee. After hearing about this restaurant for years we finally made it over to try it! Definitely did not disappoint. Our steaks were cooked perfectly and were delicious. Everything on the salad bar was SO fresh- worth going back even if all we ordered was the salad bar! Atmosphere was pleasant and the service was good. An all around very wonderful experience! We go here at least once a year! It’s about 45 minutes from us but well worth the drive because there aren’t any left by us, and this one is run really well. The salad bar is of course the selling point always clean and well stocked. I usually get the meatloaf but I tried the ribeye last night and really enjoyed it. Love the cozy space by the bookcase. Clean and updated. The food was really good and the prices aren't bad. The few times I order a steak is at charlie browns. Our waitress was also amazing and so sweet. (Can't remember her name sorry but she had fun colored hair! Charlie browns used to have such delicious food and now every visit lately the food has been mediocre of just horrible. The prime rib used to be superb and now it dry and flavorless.
