Cockney Kings Fish Chips

I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant, especially with their haddock fish and chips, which were outstanding. The thin batter was perfect, and the fish pieces were fresh and hearty. The fish shrimp tacos were also impressive. However, I found the calamari to be somewhat bland, and the soup didn't quite hit the mark for me; the mix of fish, clam, bacon, carrot, and celery in one bowl felt a bit off. On the plus side, the portion sizes were surprisingly generous for the price. Our waitress provided fantastic service. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a simple, family-friendly dinner—his fish and chips are a safe bet!

While the food took a bit longer to arrive at our table, this was understandable since the fish and chips are freshly fried. The batter on the fish was perfect—well-cooked and enveloping the fish rather than overshadowing it, which can happen at other places with excessive batter and minimal fish. As for the chips, they appeared to be frozen rather than the hand-cut variety typically served at other restaurants. The prices were slightly higher than those at other fish and chip establishments, but given the quality, it felt like a fair value. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Parking was easy and free!

My boyfriend and I ordered four pieces of cod and chips, along with a large coleslaw and five homemade tartar sauces to go, which were only 5 cents each! However, when we got home, we discovered that one of the orders contained two small pieces of fish that barely amounted to one piece. The majority was batter, with very little actual fish. We spent $50 on this meal, and we are quite dissatisfied.

Throughout all the years I've been coming here, I've never had a disappointing meal. I always enjoy dropping by for poutine, cod and chips (which taste almost homemade), a batter dog, or any mix of these delights. The service was excellent; our server was quick and friendly. The restaurant was quite busy, which was understandable since it was one of the All You Can Eat days. The atmosphere was great, with a pleasant crowd—no rambunctious kids, just polite older patrons who were also enjoying their fish and chips!
