We stayed at the hotel for one night which was just perfect but the restaurant, sadly, left a lot to be desired. The setting is lovely overlooking the Gironde river where we spotted seals playing. It’s just such a shame about the food and the service. We were seated and offered an aperitif and OH ordered a G&T. We were given the menus, the wine carte, and carte for wines by the glass. His drink arrived and we were asked to order food and wine without really being given any time to look at the various menus. On the “à la carte” menu, the various dishes had a recommended wine by the glass (not priced) which we chose, however, in both French and English, I explained that I did not drink red wine so could I please have a suitable white wine instead to accompany my main dish. However, red was produced with a “well, sorry, but it’s already on your bill”. Hubby hadn’t even touched his aperitif before our entrées and accompanying wines arrived. My white wine was warm and my “salmon en Tataki” was, quite frankly , “fishy”. The accompanying saffron and olive oil ice cream was a tasteless, melting puddle which needed a spoon (not provided) to eat it. His foie gras was ok, not great but ok. My main of veal was two lumps of tasteless, tough meat, with overcooked vegetables. We didn’t have dessert because I was reluctant to pay for yet more disappointing, expensive food. The servers were pleasant but the service was not. Haphazard and hurried. Three times a server approached to clear our plates but retreated when she realised I was still eating. We got the impression that the object was to get people fed and out as soon as possible. For us, the food and service did not make a pleasant experience. The cost for our dinner and one night in the hotel was the same as one night in a 1* Michelin hotel restaurant with a 5 course dinner with all the additional lovely extras such as amuse bouche and petits fours and wines to match every course. Beware do not order the accompanying wines here. For 10cl the price was €12 16 a glass, and a mediocre glass of wine at that! All in all, it was very disappointing. We are French residents who eat out often. This experience wasn’t good.
