We walked about 1/4 mile through downtown Madison to eat here. We were not disappointed with our choice for dinner. We were seated rather quickly (within 20 minutes) on a Saturday night when the restaurant was absolutely packed. The hostesses and wait staff were very friendly. The food was amazing! We absolutely loved the burgers and the fries with garlic sauce were also spectacular. We're so glad that we walked in the freezing cold weather to eat here. We'll be back again.
I ordered the Original burger for take away, so obviously this is a limited review. But I did want to say that the burger was really good, with a sort of old school, flat-top kind of flavor--something you rarely get with the ubiquitous gourmet burgers so common now. Slightly disappointing was the slaw (which my order-taker recommended). Not a big deal, maybe it was just a subpar batch: but it had absolutely no flavor, taking bland to a new level.
Dotty’s was hard to get to because all parking seemed to be used up before this outta towner arrived. But we only had Carryout to pick up, so a quick double park with hazard lights on, was enough for us to get our dinner before getting a ticket. The ambiance inside looked inviting and after enjoying our Carryout back at the hotel, we’d be inclined to go back again and eat there without our friendly canine companion in tow.

The visit started with a shorter wait than told. Friendly service good beer selection (Note: Spotted Cow is overrated but drinkable) I’d say “What A Burger” but I think that’s been taken. But WOW! What a great burger. I travel a lot and that was the best burger I’ve had in years. And it starts with the core of it the patty itself. Amazing! When in the Madison area, it’s a must stop for a casual burger beer.
Great variety of burgers. Burgers don’t come with a side, but good sauces and house made accouterments, and the cheese curds and fries are both decent extras. Quite a few brews on tap.
Great atmosphere, fast service, and the best burger I've had in Madison thus far. Also loved the fried pickles (and I don't even like pickles). Will definitely return!
Ate here before a Badger basketball game. The burgers were exceptional. Also had fries, cheese curds, and onion rings. All were very good. Service was outstanding.

This is a great burger place with an old school feel. And institution of Madison. Lots of burgers and beers to choose from. A must when visiting UM in Madison.
