June 2020. Made a dinner reservation for two mid-week as COVID-19 restrictions lift. We started with bread with smoked butter, and the scallops (beautiful gorgonzola and orange sauce, which we enjoyed mopping up with our fresh bread). For mains, we had the sirloin (cooked perfectly medium-rare) and pork belly (slight layer of fat but crispy skin). We tried the cheesecake for dessert, which was a luscious and delicious deconstruction. Service was reasonable. Prices on higher end, particularly for single glass of wine. Smart casual ambience. Really nice atmosphere, and very busy even midweek, and they deserve to be: it's a pretty slick operation. Great friendly staff, and great service. Interesting textures, and tastes with the food. The highlight was a special of sandcrab with hollandaise, in a sort of savoury custard: decadently rich, and ethereally light. I wasn't a fan of the duck pork spring rolls, as I thought the pastry was a bit thick, and chewy, almost, dare I say it, reminiscent of a Chiko roll, rather than flakey like filo, but my dining partner really liked it, so I guess it's down to personal preference. Arrived here with great expectations after two recommendations only to be disappointed. Decor and ambience great. Moderately attended on a Wednesday so promising. Initial waiter seemed to be on the money. Then got swapped to a young lady with no idea. That dragged things out. Entre’s were ok without being brilliant. Mains ribs (an entire meal) were average can do better at home, duck a bit tough. Third waiter to finish was ho hum. In summary looks can be deceiving as can our friends recommends, unfortunately!!
Went to Drum for my sons birthday. We had perfect meal. Shared starter of quail , spring rolls and gnocchi, was just right , not to heavy. I had pork belly was delicious, wife and daughter had market fish , perfectly cooked, and son had sirloin steak, beautiful. Anybody who has a sweet tooth i would recommend the creme brulee , the best creme brulee I've had for long time. Staff and service again were top notch. an excellent discovery in newstead that quickly becomes a favorite. chef paul hoffman produces excellent dishes, with classic technology that shows the difference between many suburban voices. friendly staff, and always a welcome for recurring customers. a venue that would make a casual lunch or drink, but also with a menu that would make a special occasion unforgettable
Delicious! I had a 3 course meal beginning with cauliflower croquettes. They were perfectly crunchy on the outside and cheesy on the inside! The main was pumpkin gnocchi which was also very tasty. The dessert was panna cotta. Perfect way to finish the 3 courses. Also happy with the service and atmosphere.
beautiful atmosphere! perfect for date night or any special occasion! one must also go and her Sunday cheese special is amazing! outside and inside seat. book in advance to get a beautiful inside seat on the window with a fantastic view both on the interior of the restaurant and on the street!
What a surprise. Party of four who are regular at dining , we shared 4 different entrees ,tapas all were superb. Again different mains none of could fault our meal. Highly recommended we all said we would return. Service excellent We are all highly experienced in hospitality Reserva una mesa ahora
