The Pozole was a bit different from the traditional version, which was fine. It had a beef broth base with chickpeas, and while it was okay, it didn't quite hit the mark. The bear, ox chop, and rabbit sausage were served together on one plate with potatoes, small whole baby turnips, and slaw, all drenched in a rich red wine gravy. I would have preferred the components to be presented separately so I could appreciate each flavor, as the red wine sauce was quite overpowering. A delightful surprise and a wonderful experience! It was our first time dining here, and the portion sizes were definitely worth the price. Sergio, the local saxophonist, was amazing. Our server, Brandon, had a great sense of humor and was very knowledgeable. He didn’t rush us at all and checked on us regularly. The chef expertly charred the meats on a seasoned grill, and the salads were fresh and vibrant. I had the field and stream plate, which featured elk and duck, and it was fantastic. The surf and turf was exceptional as well. If I had one suggestion, it would be to expand the dessert options, although the spoon dessert was excellent. Also, the men's restroom could use some updates.
This restaurant, located in what seems to be an old manufacturing facility, is one of the most upscale places you'll ever encounter. While I've only tried the pizzas and the bar area, both are exceptional. If you visit on a Thursday night when Sergio is performing, his music truly elevates the experience. The staff is friendly and highly professional. One unusual aspect for me is that they keep the place quite dark. While some may find it enhances the atmosphere, I personally would prefer a bit more light.
I've been visiting Hickory for several years and dine out frequently. However, I had never been to Duke's until Tuesday, July 23. It turned out to be a fantastic experience. Even though I was alone, I enjoyed a wonderful meal, had a nice conversation with the bartender, and tried the Elk Chops. They were delicious, along with the accompanying sides. This restaurant has a wonderful intimate atmosphere and serves fantastic food. My husband described the steak as perfectly cooked—truly the best he’s ever had. I enjoyed the seafood medley, which was full of seafood and absolutely delicious. The portions are generous, so make sure to come hungry. The waitstaff was exceptional as well. It's the ideal spot for a date night!
Every dish was outstanding. The kale salad was particularly tasty. I ordered the halibut and scallops, while my wife opted for the beef tenderloin. We topped off our meal with Oreo cheesecake, which was fantastic! The atmosphere was very laid-back. Our server, Emory, was incredibly knowledgeable and attentive without ever making us feel rushed. I can't wait to return!
