Dunn's Famous Rockland

I love smoked meat. If I see it on a menu, I am going to order it. I used to work less than a minute's walk from Dunn's on Elgin Street, and would have lunch there at least twice a week. When I saw that a Dunn's was opening in Rockland, I was stoked at being able to easily satisfy my smoked meat cravings.The first time I went I ordered the standard smoked meat sandwich. Smoked meat was dry and overcooked, with almost no fat on it (the fat is the best part!), and the bread was dry, bordering on stale. I frequently visit Dunn's and its routinely for breakfast. I've been there for supper, but primarily visit in the morning to take advantage of their breakfast menu. I arrived just after 7am and ordered breakfast. The service was consistent and the waitress engaged (as always) with the entire restaurant. Although it wasn't busy, she was and always is perpetually moving and cleaning. The food arrived and overall the food was delicious with the exception of the soggy home fries. This is the first time I've had soggy home fries there and was actually surprised that they were wilted, had clearly been cooked and sitting on a steam table. If you can't make it to Montreal, Rockland is your next best place for a smoke meat sandwich in the east-end of the City of Ottawa. The meat was so tender that it just melts in your mouth and no fat. We met with some friends for dinner and they chose a different meal than ours. He ordered the meat loaf and the she the liver and onions and both of them raved about the tenderness of their meat. Next time they visit they want to try to smoke meat. As for those who complained about the fat in the smoke meat I would strongly recommend that you let them know that you would prefer less or no fat on your meat. The service was OK but we had to ask the server for water when we could get his attention....

The menu shows a picture of what appears to be the fish and chips but when the order came it was two pieces of square processed fish and smell was off ...turned off I just took the small garden salad which I was over charged. Waitress tried to tell me that most people like the fish and it is true that the picture does not represent the fish but the chicken fingers????Also what turned me off is other excuses why we were charged a different price for one drink saying it is not considered a soft drinkLots of selection on the menu but better to stick to the smoke meat sandwich which my husband had and he said was good

I should have stopped after one visit. The first time around, I ordered a smoked meat sandwich that was dry and fatty with overcooked, soggy fries. I couldn't even eat it. The second time around (shame on me), I tried a pizza instead. The sauce tasted like ketchup and the crust like cardboard. I have never before and never since had such awful food. Don't say I didn't warn you.

After living in Montreal for most of my life and moving to Rockland I thought there was no way Dunn's in Rockland could come close to Dunn's in Montreal as it is an institution there. Well to my surprise although considerably smaller the food was outstanding and teh service first rate. I will not hesitate going back and perhaps to eat in this time.

We've had breakfast here several times in the past several months. Service is courteous and fast. The breakfast plates are generous, promptly served hot, and very tasty.Prices are reasonable and one can have breakfast and be back on his or her way quickly. A perfect combination for the busy schedule...

Famous smoke meat, delicious pizza, friendly servers. Easy to find on the main street in Rockand and across the street from the Funeral Home to have a bite.
