Old pub that has had a face lift with the upstairs rooms done out in a art deco style. From what we saw each room was different in styling. Good size room with comfy bed and a mid size bathroom. Only complaint was low water pressure and hard to set a constant water temperature. Downstairs is 'trendy pub ' with live 'unplugged ' style music on two of the nights we stayed. The music could be heard in one of the two rooms we had, so I suggest getting second floor rooms if you are noise sensitive. Food in the pub section was very good. Lots of local coffee shops and restaurants and a few second hand stores with a good range of merchandise. (Some good vinyl! You can walk to Carlton if you are kee...
Booked dinner for 8 only to arrive and find the small public bar area had live music on and our table was directly in front of the act meaning our catch up with friends was turned into a let’s shout at each other and say “what was that?” every second sentence. The music was actually good just too loud and nowhere to escape in that small room. They kindly offered us the downstairs private dining room which felt a bit odd sitting down there but offer gratefully accepted. After dinner we went up to the balcony for a change of scenery. The food wasn’t outstanding, fried chicken was crucified.
We visited on a Saturday around 6:30pm. During our previous visit, the pub was full of families and locals, but this time there was a different crowd and a security person present. The place seemed less busy than before. I was surprised by the early and loud entertainment, as it didn't seem to match the atmosphere.
For these reasons, I can only give two stars for these visits, whereas before I would have given four stars or more. The pub should consider the type of services it wants to offer and the crowd it wants to attract. Personally, I will not be returning.
When I booked this hotel I didn't realise it was a pub but once we arrived we were very happy we booked it. The rooms are funky. The bathroom very good- great decor and a massive shower head. The room was surprisingly quiet. The pub downstairs was nice. There are many restaurants and bars around. There is no bar fridge in the room and no parking but there is plenty of on street parking. We did notice that it was cheaper to book the room on the hotel website rather than booking sites

I was most impressed with the service and overall experience with my weekday lunch here. The staff were helpful and my daily special fish and chips lunch was well beyond expectations. I had Blue Grenadier, grilled, with salad and chips and the quality was excellent. I also had a Pirate pale ale, which was as the bar person described, Sour with a taste of passionfruit. It was just the thing for a hot day.
East Brunswick Hotel is in Lygon St. East Brunswick is a trendy inner suburb of Melbourne. The hotel serves good food and drink, with a better than average pub-style menu. The burgers are good, and so are the sides. The desserts are tempting. By the way, although it's an older-style property, it's quite comfortable.
The meal was fantastic and the prices were reasonable. The wine list and selection of beers on tap were extensive. There was even live music on Sunday afternoon. The restaurant has been renovated nicely with big screens and a very classy atmosphere. It is definitely worth a visit.
Small family celebration catering for guest aged from 65 to 30!! All welcomed, catered for diff tastes, staff very friendly fun, food absolutely delicious, able to use upstairs to sing happy birthday without interrupting other diners

Ever since the renovations, this pub has become a favorite spot for us. The staff is fantastic, the food is outstanding, and the live music is awesome. We find ourselves heading down to the EBH almost every weekend for a great time.
