I have mixed feelings about this restaurant. The food was amazing! Everything was incredibly delicious! I ordered the skirt steak and my husband had the oxtails, both were absolutely divine. However, the main issue was the bill. The prices on the menu did not accurately reflect what we were charged. Each item ended up costing an additional 4-15 dollars. For example, my skirt steak was listed as $25 on the menu but we were charged $35. They also charged me an extra $4 for the avocado side that was supposed to come with the steak. Unfortunately, every item on the bill was inaccurately priced. This lack of transparency is concerning and dishonest, so we will not be returning.
Family of 6 (3 generations) went to El Merengue restaurant. Authentic Spanish food, and yes if you like Puerto Rican food, it was Delicious. Service was very good as was the atmosphere. This was a pleasant surprise that we had no idea was in the vicinity of Shawnee Poconos. El Merengue serves up incredibly tasty food! We have never been let down. If you happen to be in the Poconos, make sure to drop by! They offer takeout for dinner, with prices ranging from $20 to $30 per person. The food, service, and atmosphere all earn a perfect 5 out of 5 rating. Highly recommended dishes include the Flan, Rice and Beans, Pernil, and Tostones Fried.
Very tasty food, truly Spanish food with a Central American twist. Service is fast, knowledgeable, and with a smile. Prices are very reasonable and plates are full of food, not decoration. This restaurant was disappointing. I was informed that they were out of several items on the menu. The food was overly salty, the rice was too hard, and the meat was greasy. The portions were small with mostly rice. Overall, I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere a 1 out of 5.
