I went for lunch with a friend to get take away fish and chips but the lady at the counter was so much fun and was so lovely to us that we chose to sit in.Quite a small place but bright and airy to sit and want watch the world go by on Elizabeth Street so totally sufficient for a light lunchtime bite.We ordered a portion of fish and chips and a portion of calimari rings to share. The calimari could have been ever so much softer but it looked like they had put some spices through the batter so I was happy enough. The fish was off a larger fillet, trevally or blue grenadier, and it was cooked perfectly.Soft and delicious and an excellent crispy batter, it's actually making me salivate thinking a...

Called in on a Tuesday afternoon for a late lunch as I had driven past the place many times and sometimes parking was difficult. Met by a very friendly guy who took my order for grilled hake and chips. Had to wait for about 15 minutes....but I SO GLAD I did. The fish was a total melt in the mouth moment- perhaps the best fish I have eaten in the last 5 or more years!. So good....i got up and asked him to grill another piece, which he did and that was just as good. Great value.....and so I went the following afternoon for the same meal- but this time he had just finished making a seafood chowder!. Not one to let a chance at chowder to slide by, I ordered the chowder and fish and chips. SENSAT...
I don't hand out gold stars like a Primary School teacher, so the Fish Bar is very good... but for its size and cuisine it is verging on Excellent. The devastating fire a while back has seen a rebirth as a clean, light and well furnished fish and chip bar. Small tables of course, but plenty of attention to detail, including both varieties of vinegar! The battered fish was beautifully cooked, and it is no reflection on the quality that the chucks will enjoy the batter, more my attempt to not over indulge.
This fish bar is positioned right next door to the previous outstanding Mako fish restaurant. We ordered dinner for 5 people - the chips were soggy, the fish was covered in a very thick under cooked batter disguising the very small piece of fish. One piece actually contained batter only. They forgot to include the tartare sauce and the saleswoman was unable to operate an EFTPOS machine adequately. A very disappointing experience for $90. Would not recommend this dodgey establishment. Appears some of the reviewers have confused this place for one at sandy bay. This is in north Hobart next to mako. I just had the lunch special it was a $9.50 blue grenadier fish and chips. One of the best quality and properly cooked pieces of fish I've had for a while. Friendly. Clean. Brilliant. I'll be back.
The lady here was very lovely and chatty, and talked us through the various options on the menu. After selecting the standard flake and chips, the fish was filleted then and there, before being freshly battered and fried. It was delicious, and the freshness was evident.
I have previously purchased fish and chips from this shop but unfortunately this time they were really off their game. The fish was not good, not that it was overlooked but rather it was not a great taste - not as fresh as it should have been.
We had a wonderful lunch with our family at this restaurant, enjoying fresh and beautifully prepared fish and seafood. The staff was very kind and helpful, making our dining experience even more enjoyable. Reserva una mesa ahora
When visitors come to Hobart, they are eager to try the seafood. Everyone recommends trying the freshest seafood in Tasmania.
