Puckett?s Grocery Restaurant in Leiper?s Fork, Tennessee was founded in 1953 as a county store. One could stop for gas, groceries and a good, down south meal. Now, over the years this local bar and eatery has expanded to other locales but has kept this authentic, hole in the wall feel here at home. Serving up award-winning burgers and barbecue and opening up their stage to veterans like Winona Judd, Tanya Tucker, Rodney Crowell, David Archuleta and so many more. Not tomention those fresh to the Nashville scene, those up and comers. Very limited parking got us joining the long line of vehicles running up and down both sides of the highway. Definitely this location fits the saying of being out in thesticks. An outdoor patio strung with holiday lights lit the way, as an open wood fire scented the air and the voices of friends welcomed us. Inside was loud and crowded with a mishmash of mismatched tables and chairs, offering nodiscernible path to take so we bumped our way along the line of others along the bar. We were perplexed by the amount of people standing around the outer edges of the room as tables remained open. This would come later in the form ofshell shock as we requested a table and later discovered on our bill a coverage charge of $7.00 per person! Just to sit at a table. And being it was open mike on stage, there would be no artist of any notoriety to justify this cost. Onebarbecue meal with two sides, a simple cheeseburger, three drinks, tip and service charged came to nearly $100! Later, after paying our bill we discovered that they hadn?t charged us for a soda and/or peach cobbler we had for dessert orthe extra macaroni and cheese they brought to correct our initial order. Hate to think what the bill would have been. Barbecue had a nice smoky flavor with some with blackened edges, home style mash potatoes that were chunky with skinsleft on, green beans and a cornbread like pancake.
