"we visit this place regularly due to the stunning views over the valley below and the variety of local festivals held here throughout the year. It's especially nice to park halfway up the hill and walk up through the forest, also visiting in the evening you might be rewarded with a spectacular sunset. The restaurant is cosy inside for winter meals and has a delightful beer garden for the warmer weather - highly recommended!"

We have been visiting the Einkorn for many years, as we have a home nearby, and always have a nice time there. Situated at the top of the Einkorn hill 510 metres above Schwäbisch Hall this is more than just a Gasthaus, there is also:The ruin of a Pilgrimage Church that is used as a venue for parties, weddings etcA 28 bed hostel. A watch tower with spectacular views over the local countryside.A very large communal BBQ, just bring some fuel and food. A play area for children.A full programme of live music. You can watch hang gliders and paragliders jump off the top of the hill or radio controlled model airplanes flying aerobatics.Lovely walks in the forest to work up a thirst and appetite. A large car parkThe food is freshly prepared with good portions locally sourced Schwäbisch dishes including - Maultaschen, Kase Spätzle, Zweibelrostbraten, Scnitzel and Linsen with Spätzle; the menu changes regularly and we have rarely been disappointed. There is a good selection of wines, many local, and the beers are, of course, superb. The waitresses are both friendly and efficient and we always enjoy a visit there.

Two local families with my surname set up a late afternoon meeting here with me and three members of my US family to explore whether we might be related. We started with drinks in the beer garden and ended with dinner inside. The restaurant has a limited menu of local classics. They are moderately priced and of excellent quantity.Between drinks and dinner, we had a chance to explore the area around the Gasthaus. The Einkorn is named for the 1600-foot high hill upon which it sits. The location offers a spectacular view of the Kocher River valley below. The grounds also hold the Mantelturm, a tower of the ruins of a baroque pilgrimage church. A climb to its top provides an even better view. Two families were having a cook-out nearby while their children enjoyed running and using the playground equipment. As far as I could tell, the Einkorn is well-known and enjoyed by locals, but is otherwise little-known. While visiting the lovely town of Schwabisch Hall, take the opportunity to check out this gem of a place for good food in an interesting location.

The food and service were good on both occasions that I had eaten at the Einkorn, the menu selection is reasonable, the pork roast was very good and the Maultaschen is a very nice local dish. The most impressive thing about the beer garden and restaurant is its location, during the warmer seasons to be able to eat and drink outside while taking in the spectacular views of the local countryside. During the summer months on several occasions visiting the Einkorn at weekends there were hang gliders and parasailing from the hill top location.

My reason for this top rating is twofold: you'll get good local cuisine here for a good price and in major quantities. It is also one of the best places in the area for a walk along silent forest lanes for many miles. In fall and winter the plateau below the Einkorn with it's villages can be seen below through the trees. During the summer months sailplanes and gliders take of from the slopes facing west. And an ancient observation tower located next to the restaurant offers 360-degree views of the area.
