My wife and I went without booking on a busy Monday afternoon and were easily seated by a roaring fire (just what we needed after a long, frosty walk). The service was pleasant and immediate, and the food extremely tasty. I had the chicken pie which came with loads of veg and for the price was an ideal (generous) portion. It was one of the best pies I had in years. My wife had the quiche and whilst tasty and looked great on the plate was a more meagre portion and didn't seem to be as good a portion considering the price. This restaurant is a wonderful spot to have lunch. The food is excellent, the service is great, and they are dog-friendly. There are plenty of vegetarian options available on the menu, making it a good choice for my vegetarian friend. The price per person ranges from £20 to £30. We arrived without a booking. It was full but they fitted us in and I had one of the best meals I can remember. The venison and smoked bacon suet crust pie was outstanding.
