This was our first time visiting and we were pleasantly surprised. The bar and dining area is spacious and well-designed, modern with character that is inviting. It is complemented by a large beer garden with an abundance of palms and ferns, a large shade sail, giving it a very tropical feel. The gaming area is tastefully located so as not to overwhelm you with a hundred TV screens while you relax over food and drinks, yet close enough for those who like to play. The food was simple but exceptionally well done, affordable yet not cheap. We really enjoyed our evening and can imagine it must be buzzing on a busy night. We look forward to returning when Covid is gone.
Had lunch twice here recently and each time had the fish and chips. The grilled reef fish was beautifully cooked and fresh, the chips hot and crisp and the small salad complimented the meal. Just right for a lunch on the run. We will come back on our next visit to Mackay. Very reasonably priced too!
we have been to Golden Gecko on a number of occasions and so far have never been disappointed with the meals....the prices are also very very reasonable. the food is very good, i would say the steak is as good as the Austral and about half the price...well done
I will not be returning here and will also be reporting the owner for his actions. Despicable that a glass of water is not provided free of charge. This happened to me just minutes after a pregnant woman was also refused a free glass of water.

Great staff, great beer garden, awesome ambiance. We called in here on a night out and really enjoyed it. Surprised more people weren't there! A relaxed band would be great in the beer garden!
this place was good once. we have called to dinner reservations a series of paintings now. but they don't have a chef, very disappointing.
I visit this restaurant regularly and have come to appreciate the atmosphere and the staff.
