We lived in Lahr many years ago, so this was a culinary trip down memory lane for a basic Schnitzel, and our first time at the Gruener Baum. It did not disappoint. The decor is traditional, tables well spaced. At lunch they were full. We ordered Schnitzel with fries, side salad, beer and wine. Our friend ordered a lovely Spring salad with asparagus and salad. All was beautifully presented, Schnitzels were piping hot and tender, and the service was very good. There was a slight mix-up with the bill, as we thought we had ordered the half portion (and commented that if this was half, we wouldn't want to have the full size!) As it turns out the waitress didn't hear our request for "halb-portion"...
We wanted to celebrate our birthday comfortably. The food was very good. But that was all. The service is hectic and limited to the bare essentials. Service employees were constantly darting frantically around the room. The boss loudly reprimanded her employees. She was probably completely overwhelmed and at her limit. Perhaps it would make more sense to allocate fewer tables if you are overwhelmed by the large number of guests. Instead of being asked politely if you wanted dessert, you were quickly given the dessert menu and placed on the corner of the table as you walked past. Really enjoyed our meal here, service was great, the owner was really busting her butt to make sure everyone in the restaurant was taken care of, filling up wine and beer glasses as she ran to and from the kitchen. Despite the notable shortness in staff I didn't feel as though we were at all neglected. The food was amazing!!!! A bit on the pricier side but the portions are huge and the quality was top-notch so well worth a nice evening out. Had the deer with cranberry sauce and spaetzel, everything fresh made. Will absolutely be going back during our next visit to Lahr. Thanks very much for the wonderful meal.
In the past, I have already eaten in this very good restaurant and this time I was once again very satisfied.I ate a very good "red beet carpaccio with caramelized goat cheese" as starter, followed by a very good "veal steak with Asparagus and risotto". The cooking of the veal (requested as medium) was perfect.The service was good and very friendly (only issue : in German only), the choice of local wines is interesting.We paid around 100 € for 3 drinks, 3 starters, 3 main dishes and half a litter of local red wine.I strongly recommend this place.

Very cozy small hotel. Very little choice for vegetarians, but available choices are tasty. One risotto, one rosti, ..that's all. But good quality food nevertheless. The best feature was the warm friendliness of the hotel owner who's family is the serving staff. Such friendly and helpful people, attract you to the place again and again. Breakfast was the best with a fantastic array of breads and cheeses.
We have stayed here many times due to grandparents living in the town. When we visited for my grandmother's funeral the staff were very accommodating, especially of the English contingent! We had a wonderful celebratory meal and the food was fantastic! The children had a great time and ask when we can next visit!
my favorite in Lahr! never had a dish i wasn´t satisfied with. always very delicious and creativ. love it! the atmosphere is very comfortable and friendly. i always look forward to next visit in the Grüne Baum whenever i´m in Lahr.i highly recommend this place.
Neben dem exzellenten Rostbraten möchte ich mal ausdrücklich die Suppe loben: Heiß, so wie es sein muss mit bissfester Gemüseeinlage. Sehr edles Ambiente.
