"Nice friendly pub that we called into after a walk in the area. Not sure why it’s called Halfway House, maybe it’s halfway between Chester and Birkenhead?"

Well I’m back in the area, so I popped in the Halfway House again, post lockdown. I must say they are very well organised here. Sanitiser on hand, high bar screens keeping the staff well protected, order at one part of the bar collect from another part, keeping in line with social distancing, they ask for your details politely and with a smile. You can even order your drinks from the beer garden if you require and they are brought to you. The staff are cleaning regular and everyone including the customers are respectful and keeping with the social distancing. It is the safest pub I have been in up to yet and the ONLY ONE that has asked for details. Very well done to all the staff. I live 80...

This is my 2nd visit to Halfway House and I find it welcoming, friendly and a good local atmosphere. I’m staying at the Premier Inn 5 minutes walk at my slow speed anyway, ten seconds max for Usane Bolt. I have tried another pub around this area last year and found it not friendly to visitors. But I was made very welcome last time I was here, and the staff are friendly this time. Customers are also very friendly, without being in your face. So I don’t understand what some people want from a pub? You can go to a restaurant style pub, with no atmosphere, you can go to a louder pub with ear plugs or you can go here, have a conversation, relax and enjoy a good drink. I know what I prefer. Try it...

Traditional 'pub '. No food on sale just an ever changing selection of real ales, fine wines and spirits including all the 'posh gins '. Comfortable surroundings in the bar/lounge area with a lovely beer garden and play field. Landlord and Lady were welcoming and the bar staff really friendly. Dogs are welcome and a supply of treats and water made available to them. The local clientel were friendly and I definately enetred as a customer but left as a friend! The pub has quiz nights and entertainment from 'open mic nights ' and occasional bands on Saturdays. Will visit again and again !

As they don't do food I can't understand that previous review either. The emphasis at this pub is quality beer and conversation. There are TVs but not too loud. It used to be a Marstons pub but now free to choose what they want so some very nice beers can be found from micros mainly from the north west of the region though Marstons/Thwaites beers are sometimes still on. Nice large garden, friendly staff. Reserva una mesa ahora

Visited this pub a couple of times whilst visiting the area recently and was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff locals in this pub. They helped us call a local taxi company so that we could travel to the nearby Brook Meadow Hotel where we were staying for a couple of nights. I can definitely recommend this pub to anyone passing through the area.

Firstly no idea on the reviews complaining about food. The Halfway House is a proper pub and has never done hot food in my years of patronage. Often you’ll find sandwiches on the bar provide for all customers free of charge though. Traditional. Good casks. Dog friendly. Period toilets. Huge beer garden out back. Friendly staff.

One of the last traditional pubs in the area. No loud music(except on live music nights), lighting you can see under and real ale on draught. If you want a drink and a bit of banter, then this is the place. Its a proper old fashioned PUB. Great quiz night on a Thursday too. Reserva una mesa ahora

A good evening out. The open mike night was well attended good quality. The bar could do with some decent brand lagers but was well supported on the real ale. Good night out
