Here is what we ordered: Appetizer: Korokke: 2 pieces fried mashed potato and vegetable croquette. Served with tonkatsu sauce. Donburi: Spicy Karaage Don Sweet spicy soy fried chicken. Served on a bed of rice and miso soup on the side. Teishoku: Seafood Platter: Panko crusted fried aji, shrimp, squid and scallops. Finally got a chance to try this place for the first and last time. They are closing down at the end of the month, with the last day being the 30th. They are, and have been, take out only since covid. Which is a shame because I hear the inside is very homey and the food doesn't taste the best it can be when it's being trapped inside a takeout container. The prices here are VERY reasonable with each entree item being either $12 or $13. The portions are pretty fair as well. The red bean donut was actually my favourite out of everything I've tried. Yes this restaurant is attached to an old folks' home--get over it. Because of covid, they have resorted to take out orders only to protect their residents. When they were open, they need to provide food for their residents first. Its not an issue right now as I've never has an order take longer than 20 minutes. One of the reviewers said she ordered at 5:30 and didn't get her order till 8-ish... This reviewer seems to not have a problem complaining, Why didn't you ask about it? They would have promptly got your order out. I have ordered here hundreds of times and not had any such issue. Good homestyle food and when we used to be able to eat there, good service. Never an issue like that.
Amazingly good food considering that it's located in a senior home. If I end up in a senior home, I'll be delighted if there's a cafeteria this good. But, since I'm not in a senior home, this place is interesting but not something I'd go out of my way for. A lot of the dishes are breaded and fried and they bread things much more heavily than I'd like (especially for the karaage this place has the most heavily breaded karaage I've ever had) and the way they fry results in soft (as opposed to crispy) breading. Horrible service but pretty good tasting food.Last time I came they took 40 minutes to give food and I found hair in my rice. While I was waiting for the food, they all seemed to be eating a staff meal which I didn’t mind but if they were going to do that I don’t understand why they’d accept us as dine-in customers? They then took 10 minutes to respond to me when I tried to tell them about it.
Last chance to try before they are closing down for good. Have the chance to get a take out since they are currently not doing any dine in. Everything reminds me the first time i came here for some japanese food. Time flies very fast and now they are going to close. I hope for the best for hi genki! Looking forward to getting their food again in the future. Recommended fast!!!!!
