The service was ok, drinks arrived very quickly. The waitress told us to wait before going to queue for our carvery as “there are too many people there”. I went after a bit, took my place in the queue only for another customer to barge in front of me, his friend then barged in behind him and said “I’m with him”. He did have the decency to say to the first guy that they had barged in front of me, and I just said “fill your boots”. The service at the carvery was woefully slow and with a queue of at least 6 people waiting, the chef just walked off into the kitchen. Very disappointing experience. Booked for Christmas ' Eve. Pre ordered and paid a deposit. We had chosen this place because of their 'famous Sunday roast ' as described on the website. Therefore, we thought, perfect if you are looking for a great Christmas turkey. The place was cold and empty. Just us and another table. We thought that others were yet to come (after all it was only 7:30) but, no. Nobody else came. It certainly did not meet the festive spirit and we felt very uncomfortable. I went for lunch with friends on 15th January and was very impressed with the inside of the pub but from then on things went down hill. I chose for my lunch the chicken and leek pie but have an allergy to onions asked if any onion was in the pie as I am OK with leeks. The server went to kitchen came back saying yes it had so I chose hunters chicken instead as I know there isn 't any onion. Well the meal they dished up was not hunters chicken but was chicken breast with bbq sauce plus a small container of chips and a dish of coleslaw which of course contains onion so couldn 't eat it. I waited to write this as I’ve never had poor quality food here before so I was very sad. We chose the venue for a double birthday it was my daughter’s 21st. We thought it was a bit odd that they served hot spicy soup to my 7 year old I mean I like spice but I tried this omg it was too spicy. She then didn’t want to eat her main. My creamy mushroom was part cold but served on brown toast??? Which was odd. Everyone else enjoyed their caramel chicken so I thought maybe just a blip. I spent a lot of time viewing place to eat around Cambridge and looking at their menus before deciding to visit the high flyer. I choose this venue as it had a good choice of vegetarian options and also a number of my farthers favourite dishes and as we were getting together for his birthday I felt this would be a good choice so I booked a table for our party. On arrival we were given menus with a smaller list of options on, I asked why it wasn't the menu online and wasn't given an answer. Poor service: did not understand what the vegetarian in our group had ordered and gave them a random veggie burger on the menu. New staff that didn’t know what they were doing (acceptable) without adequate supervision from other staff (unacceptable). Poor food: undercooked (couldn’t cut though) parsnips, anaemic steak cooked to medium-well when ordered rare, soggy halloumi, a pathetic amount of guacamole in the California burger, pork belly so tough I could barely cut through it… apparently the fish and chips was good though.

What a lovely gorgeous time we’ve just had at this amazing pub. So very well looked after I wish I’d got the peoples’ names but the guy had a blue and white Christmas jumper on and the lovely lady with blonde hair looked after us so well. We had two young boys with us and they treated them so brilliantly playing with them and joking and making sure we all had everything. Food was delicious especially the pork belly and the fantastic red cabbage! All in all a wonderful time and we will be back soon!

The High Flyer is absolutely stunning. I was staying in Ely for a few days the came in for food. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. The whole ambience is delightful. The decor is aesthetically pleasing. I couldn't have chosen better. If you are in Ely please call in and you will not be disappointed. Warm, cosy and dog friendly too! Great experience all round. The Carvery was delicious. Piping hot and all roast meats cooked to perfection. Lots of accompanying side dishes, sauces and gravies. Also had a beautiful tasty glass of Chardonnay which was a pleasant surprise when ordering wine in a pub. The staff were very accommodating, friendly and professional. I have recommended it to many already and will certainly return.

My friend held her wedding reception here. The food was lovely, plenty of it and nice and hot. The staff couldn’t do enough for us and we all throughly enjoyed the day! Highly recommend.
