"Nice place near the Rathaus, with typical German beer. The place is really charming, the only negative thing is that there is no place for non-smokers."

You read that correctly. Peaches steeped in white wine, served in dark beer! It is a type of beer punch and is actually delicious and more to the point...part of your five a day fruit and veg allowance! Hinkelstein is a cellar bar. Down old worn stone steps, it is a gem of a place. There is a massive stone handing over the bar, held in place by strong chains. It seems to be a sports bar as there are several large screen TVs in the place. If you need to use the bathroom, it is up some very narrow old stone stairs. Interesting to navigate after a few beers! We spend an hour here early one evening while the Christmas market outside was thronged. We chatted to the extremely amiable barman, who,...
I came upon this place by chance, it is a cellar bar so doesn 't have much 'street presence '. The bar was lovely and cool (outside temp was 35C) and felt like a proper locals bar. Sometimes these types of places can be a bit intimidating but the staff were really welcoming and very comical. They spoke with a lot of knowledge about the beers they had and imparted a lot of good tips for visiting Marbrg. I saw them making a peach, wine and brown beer concoction which this bar is apparently well known for but wasn 't brave enough to try this local delicacy!! Great music. Well worth a visit.

The Hinkelstein is a classic in Marburg and a meeting point for numerous students both during the week and during the weekend. A pub of the finest, because it is next to many different beers, the delicious Altbierbowle, which is not only drunk by girls; The Hinkelstein is a smoker pub that makes the shop very attractive especially in winter. Cheap prices, nice people and the vaulted cellar make it an indispensable offer for one or other wet pleasure evening in Marburg. Look in, it's worth it! Reserva una mesa ahora

One of the really must-see spots in Marburg. Deep in the heart of Marburg's Oberstadt, this is a real gem of a pub. It can get noisy once the students shake down their parents for enough cash and then set about drinking the reserves dry! Some lovely beers to be had including the "Altbierbowle" and "Bananenweizbier", both go down lovely and no matter how much of them you knock back, they stay down! Really friendly staff, multi-lingual and the atmosphere is otherworldly.
This feels a bit like a dungeon, but the ceilings are high which means it's not claustrophobic. It's very smoky, because smoking is allowed inside, so keep that in mind. It was a great place for a big group and the beer was cheap and good. I'd go back, although wearing clothes that are okay if they get smoky.
This bar has three key things, cheap beer, a bolder hanging over the bar, and a bunker like room in the back. The main seating area is part wine cellar part bunker and totally cool. The bolder hanging over the bar is HUGE and a must see. Reserva una mesa ahora
