Had a meal booked for 5:30pm (opening time) however when I arrived was left outside for 10 minutes lights weren’t even on inside. One member of staff opened the door and asked if I had a booking but to my surprise he had no idea of any booking. Similar for another person who came in expecting to pay for their take away which had been ordered via phone call but again, the staff had no idea of any take away. Then at 5:50 all of the staff rocked up carrying in all of the ingredients through the front entrance past all of the customers who had not even been sat down yet, which means the food was not prepped at all. We used to go to the Holdi all the time, and thought it was superb. We wouldn’t have gone anywhere else. The food and service was always second to none. The food now sadly is very ordinary. My friend’s lamb was really tough, and my chicken was dry also. The waiting staff were always excellent and very courteous. They now seem very inexperienced, and whilst being attentive is good, asked us three times if we’d finished our starters, by the third time it became irritating. We were in early evening and no one else was in, so didn’t know what the rush was?? This takeout meal was excellent! The garlic king prawn starter and chicken patia main course were both delicious. The chicken was plentiful and cooked perfectly in a flavorful spicy sauce. It was a pleasant surprise to find that there was no oil used in the dishes, which is rare at Indian restaurants nowadays. Each time I visit, I try a different curry and am always impressed by the unique flavors. What really makes this place stand out is the high quality of the food and the friendly hospitality of Ibby, Jay, and all the staff. Thanks for a great meal!
On Saturday night, the restaurant was packed with customers but the service was still impeccable. Our party of four had a fantastic meal. We each tried a different curry for our main course, all of which were delicious and well-spiced. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the curries weren't greasy like in some other places. The naan breads were cooked perfectly in the tandoor and came out beautifully puffed up. Special thanks to Ibby, Jay, and Skinny for making our evening so memorable. It was a superb experience. We’ve been lots of times since Holdi opened and consistently had good food . Tonight seemed better than ever . Service extremely attentive and food was excellent . Very crunchy poppadums . Curries were thick sauces and well flavoured and not swimming in oil. Not loads of rice so needed to order more which came very quickly . Bread fluffy and chips were excellent All 4 of us agreed it was superb and we look forward to another visit soon.
I have never been so dissatisfied with a restaurant before. The service was terrible, the food arrived late and cold. I will never return. I recently heard that they won restaurant of the year, so perhaps things have improved, but I am not willing to give them another chance.
