My friend and I had a stop in Arth at the lake and stopped at the Horseshoe for dinner. We had no reservation, and although the place was jammed, we sat fast. The atmosphere here is very lively, the food is...yummy (and you have enough choices, generous portions, fast and professional service, and clean. The decor is really cool and lets you think you are in a cozy Swiss chalet. Would her steak, Cordon-Bleu and the apple cake (which looks like donuts, but it is indeed apple rings with a light doughnut coating delicious! . I give it 4* only because it was something too stuffed (very warm and had made with some air cone that made us a bit sleepy. But 5* for food and service!
Its a smokers' restaurant, so not really my place to be. but I know the owner, who is a medalist in the winter olympics (in bobsledding). They brew their own beer there, and there is also a conventional restaurant at the side, which is less...noisy. The bar is open until 2 a.m. during the week, and 3 a.m. on weekends, which makes it an attracive place in the larger area, as there is not much happening in terms of night-life in this rural area. (The next best other place is the Brunnerhof in Brunnen, 15 km/10 mi. away).
We went to the Horseshoe with an international group and had a booking in the room on the first floor. The furniture was very cozy, all wood, and there were tanks with fresh brewed beer so you could help yourself. There was an amazing...round table in the middle of the room that easily seats 15 people! The food was absolutely amazing. We had steaks on the hot stone with many secondary dishes. If you want to celebrate a beautiful party, try it yourself.
