I was here in 2016 and was so impressed with the waiters, from seating me, to refilling the waters, to serving the dinner! They followed all the proper protocols. But when I came again this last Wednesday Dec. 27, 2023, I was very sad to see the quality of proper serving go downhill. There was tons of reaching over people's plates, spilling or splattering the water, servers arm right across my face, etc. Not to mention, we had to fan down our female waitress to order desert as she never came to ask! It had been 7 years since we dined at Hy's so it was time and just in time before they closed for renovations. There were several menu items not available but making a different selection was easy. Hy's staff is well trained and attentive to their guests. Our server, Dayle, was exceptional and we had a great time joking around with him. We had cocktails before we ordered an brought our own wine and paid thr corkage fee. Food quality and taste was excellent. A let down. Over hyped. The food was good, but colder than it should have been because the service was slow. The waiter/waitress (they tag teamed the service literally brought the food to the table on a cart, and then walked away for a minute because he forgot something (maybe a knife? Excellent restaurant. Cozy, good food carefully prepared. Service was attentive. We tried their Ohana Thanksgiving Feast. A little pricey, but well well worth it! Food boxed came to us hot. If we wanted to make the prime rib more cooked, they gave instructions on how to do that. We’d order it again!

Old school at its absolute best! From the moment you walk in, you are immersed in a world of long ago. Service was outstanding with some dishes prepared table side. Kudos to Nick, Brett, and Ruger. We are looking forward to returning after their three months of renovations.
They added a new early sitting to accommodate more guests during Christmas and New Year so our reservation was at 4:15pm. Best steaks and great table side service.
The last evening before Hy’s closes for renovations. As usual, everything and everyone was OUTSTANDING. This is the best “special occasion” restaurant in Honolulu
