We ordered takeaway some time ago and stated that there is a capsicum allergy so there isn't to be any in any of the dishes. We checked the top couple and they seemed OK but when we got home, there was capsicum in one dish. I called and they advised I had to return the dish, for a refund. So, we were left with the option of heading back down there, which would have been another 30minutes, or go without that one dish. If we'd gone back down, we would have had a cold meal. There was no apology and when I took the dish in, as proof, the cost of that meal was refunded. Anyway, we thought we would give them a second chance and ordered over $100 worth when we had some friends over, clearly stating...
Due to airline delay we were running very late for a game and we rushed in to the restaurant thinking we may not have enough time to eat and arrive at our game on time. My husband explained to the lovely waitress, ( I believe her name was Brigid?) of our time issues and within 5 minutes she had taken our orders and provided drinks. Our freshly cooked and delicious meals arrived very promptly so we could get out with time to spare. All the staff were very efficient and pleasant and certainly made a possibly stressful night a positive experience instead!
We have been fans of Kampung Malay over the years so were keen to visit especially given we'd not been in ages, in fact since they'd made the short move to a better spot. However we found that the new space was too big and some of the original ambience was lost. The lights also seemed quite bright.. The service was very friendly, but the mains were served as we were still eating our starters...Normally the food is great, but on this night it was just ok ...Not sure we'd go back ..
I first tried the vegetarian laksa in late 2016 at a dinner party at Kampung Malay, Mudgeeraba. Absolutely delicious and great customer service. The next time I went back I asked for extra tofu as the tofu is so good! Having tried other laksas at a few different restaurants on the Gold Coast, in my opinion Kampung Malay has the best and it's great value for money.

this is our GoTo take away ,we always will default to kampung, always good and fresh fast and a reasonable , best to steer away from dining in unless you want to yell across your meal ,(to much reflective noise).
The restaurant provides good value, large portions of pretty good quality Malaysian and Chinese dishes, with some Thai style options. Not much ambience in the restaurant's decor, but, the staff are nice.
Went to the new Kampung Malay recently. The menu is very generic, same as other asian restaurants, nothing special. The restaurant doesn't have any warmth or Malaysian decor
They have a lunch menu for $11.50. Service is very quick. Handy for weekday lunch break or just between shopping centers on the weekend.

We have never had a bad dish there. Since moving to a bigger Restaurant we like it even more. The staff are good, especially Tony.
In its new location it is a bit crowded and noisy ;food is average to good ;staff friendly and helpful
